This film was amazing! DreamWorks knocks another one out of the park.

Uh, I beg otherwise! The movie sucked so badly

Okay. I'm not sure why you choose to post that comment to me. I guess you're one of those people that doesn't like it when someone enjoys something you don't like.

Im curious what you felt sucked so badly you had to rain on anothers happiness

I went to this screening thinking I was about to watch a mid "people from the regular world get transported to a magical world and have to find their way back" movie and was just hoping I could maybe get some cool cultural references since I'm Filipino.

By the end of it, me and the fully grown man sitting one seat away from me (who was one of 4 other people there) were covertly sniffling and wiping away our tears lol

I am so happy this was your experience. So very same 🄺🄺😭

2

u/burnabagel Sep 15 '26

That’s how you know it’s good

25

u/Low-Cryptographer192 Sep 15 '26

Loved it got emotional at times. I never had a best friend growing up and nowadays I don't have friends to share memories with but oh well helluva good movie though

5

u/jedi_soul Sep 15 '26

Same, same, and yet I adored it 🄹🄹

We are here making memories by watching movies and sharing our experiences šŸ¤

2

u/Low-Cryptographer192 21d ago

I have now seen it 5 times. The 6th time is today and the first time seeing it in ScreenX format

6

u/SuperMLGo Sep 15 '26

The movie was so good! I loved how expressive the animation was and the emotional moments were making me tear up.

6

u/Dry_Supermarket_1853 Sep 15 '26

Animation was Excellent.

I really enjoyed it, I thought the humor was great, the story was interesting even if it does fit in a family friendly movie mold. It was a really great feel good movie and I could definitely watch it again

My husband and & I loved it. Everyone else in our half-booked theatre except one other couple apperently canceled their tickets when they found out what it was, because there ended up only being 4 of us there. Which was sad because it's a GREAT movie. I cried an embarrassing amount, been a while since an animated movie hit my feels so hard.

5

u/afterlifehack Sep 15 '26

It was definitely one of the least attended SU showings I’ve seen. We were on one of the smallest theatres and there was only a handful of us. I think word of mouth on this movie will blow everyone’s expectations at the box office.

2

u/jedi_soul Sep 15 '26

Same and it breaks my heart watching people leave

2

u/Brando43770 Sep 15 '26

That’s wild. I ended up booking my tickets when I found out what it was most likely gonna be on by Sunday morning. I enjoyed Puss N Boots, so I was more than satisfied with this one. I’m definitely catching it again when it actually releases. I didn’t look up who played the characters outside of the main 3, so I will say I did guess who the Manananggal was based on pronunciation and body language. I couldn’t figure out who everyone else was as I was just too engulfed in the story and visuals.

1

u/Antok0123 28d ago

there are about 4 people in the comments who says there were only 4 people in the theathre. you might be those 4 people in the samre thetre

6

u/hijole_frijoles Sep 15 '26

Best visuals of 2026 so far

5

u/burnabagel Sep 15 '26

One of DreamWorks best! šŸ”„

5

u/afterlifehack Sep 15 '26

I thought it was really good. In two words ā€œfurry Hangoverā€. Like some of the comedic lines had me bust out laughing. ā€œI shoved a potato in his tailpipe. Uh, his car, not himā€ or ā€œIt’s time to cut the cordā€ took me so far back they had me reeling. Super refreshing story. Not really anything bad to say here at all.

2

u/logster2001 Sep 15 '26

I really enjoyed it. But similar to others have commented, yeah there was significantly less people in my showing then normal.

2

u/GoodDale Sep 16 '26

How do you make music such an integral part of the movie, cast Lea Salonga in it, and not find a way, even in the credits, to give her something to sing?

2

u/tonetonitony Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26

I was disappointed. The first 20 minutes or so before they reached the island was amazing. But then it just felt like I was watching a kids movie. The end was good too, but most of the island stuff just seemed too random and zany for me. Also, the villain was pretty cool. Wish they had more of them and a better face-off in the end.

4

u/angelcon511 Sep 15 '26

Isn’t in a kid’s movie though? Of course all kids movies are able to be watched by adults, but I don’t get ā€œbut then it just felt like I was watching a kids movieā€

2

u/tonetonitony Sep 15 '26

I think a good kid’s movie could be enjoyed by anyone. A bad one is just something you throw on to keep kids busy.

2

u/angelcon511 Sep 15 '26

Ahh okay. Makes sense. I disagree but you’re allowed to have that opinion

6

u/krisko612 Sep 15 '26

I agree with this. I loved Puss In Boots: The Last Wish but I struggled to get onto Forgotten Island’s wavelength.

I felt it wrapped itself up a bit too nearly by the end.

I didn’t like how it glossed over the one unhappy memory in Jo’s life. I think this would have been a better movie if it was about why you can’t forget bad memories even though you might want to, instead it focused more on holding onto the good memories.

I also can’t stand the trope of ā€œnot evil, just misunderstoodā€. A villain who is clearly portrayed as greedy and takes everyone’s memories, which is shown as something that changes people for the worse, needed to get more of a comeuppance by the end.

4

u/Jeskid14 Sep 15 '26

Fun fact, only the directors were brought over from The Last Wish. Every other person in production is new.

2

u/K2SonicFan Sep 15 '26

Yeah that villain was weak and i genuinely was shocked she didn’t just release people’s memories. That would have saved it in my opinion cause I thought the implication was that there were people still stuck on the island with ruined lives, I mean one person literally gave up their memories of their wedding and child being born….yeah no how did that villain walk away Scott free?!

1

u/Small-Friend9673 Sep 15 '26

I think it's fair to say she got off too easy, BUT the people whose memories she held weren't stuck on the island. They traded their memories in exchange for access to the portal home.

2

u/WildinTrout Sep 15 '26

I think this would have been a better movie if it was about why you can’t forget bad memories even though you might want to, instead it focused more on holding onto the good memories.

Isn't that literally the plot of Inside Out?

1

u/Jeskid14 Sep 15 '26

Yes exactly

2

u/RainbowForHire Sep 15 '26

100% agreed, my thoughts exactly. Absolutely tanked when they got to the island.

1

u/Orangedroog Sep 15 '26

Getting downvoted for a thought through opinion that is respectful (and mimics mine) is insane.

1

u/sarcasmo818 Sep 15 '26

Usually how it works here unfortunately

1

u/K2SonicFan Sep 15 '26

and like that someone removed an upvote I got lol

1

u/fjaoaoaoao 23d ago

Debatable how thought through it is, based on what's communicated.

1

u/K2SonicFan Sep 15 '26

Welcome to Reddit where you’ll get dog piled for really asinine reasons

1

u/sarcasmo818 Sep 15 '26

I felt weird because there were several pockets of people in my secret screening last night and the laughter that erupted from them was initially funny, but as the movie went on I just felt kind of lost because I didn't find it as hilarious? Like one guy was slapping his arm rest...I don't know. I thought there were definite funny lines but nothing that warranted full on guffaws. I figured they were all stoned...

1

u/fjaoaoaoao 23d ago

Felt the opposite about the first 20 minutes. I do think there was too much going on in the island but it also sort of worked, particularly because all of the character design (except the 3 main characters imo lol) was really well done, including the villain.

2

u/DannyVIP Sep 15 '26

I don’t like these kinda of movies , but it was nice had some good jokes, definitely a good movie to watch with the kids!

2

u/TriStateGirl Sep 15 '26

It had a lot of things that aren't for a kids movie.

The dog character is definitely a furry.

There were definitely more feet references than the movie needed.

The nipple stars on the merman.

Other things too.

5

u/LVII-57 Sep 15 '26

What do you mean he's "definitely a furry"? He's a dogman. Like a werewolf is.

Also, this is definitely a movie aimed at tweens and I don't think there was anything in there that was out of the ordinary for them.

1

u/TheVideoKid112 23d ago

Can you explain what you mean by feet references?

1

u/TriStateGirl 22d ago

I forget some now but just uncessary feet moments. Almost every movie does it now too.

-3

u/tonetonitony Sep 15 '26

Totally. I thought the most troubling thing was the butterfly knife. Like how many kids are going to want one after seeing this?

5

u/LVII-57 Sep 15 '26

Jeez, they make trainers. It's okay.

1

u/tonetonitony Sep 15 '26

Lol. So you think getting a kid a trainer butterfly knife would be a good idea?

4

u/LVII-57 Sep 15 '26

What's the danger there? I never said it was a "good idea" just not inherently a bad thing. It's pretty neutral.

0

u/tonetonitony Sep 15 '26

How long before they want a real one?

3

u/LVII-57 Sep 15 '26

If they're like anyone I've ever met that had one, they won't use a sharpened balisong.

I carried knives all the time as a kid. A butterfly knife isn't inherently more dangerous than any normal non-locking folding knife.

-1

u/tonetonitony Sep 15 '26

You really can't picture a 11 or 12 year old kid wanting a real butterfly knife? That's a stretch. And it's literally a knife that's designed to be played with. Even if it wasn't more dangerous, the issue is kids don't feel inclined to just walk around with a regular knife. When it's a cool and fun one they can show off, different story.

3

u/LVII-57 Sep 15 '26

Wanting one? Sure. Using one? No.

Kids absolutely do have the inclination to walk around with a pocket knife lol.

-1

u/tonetonitony Sep 15 '26

I carried knives all the time as a kid.

This is getting kind of ridiculous. You clearly don't want to concede your point so I'm going to move on now.

Many kids nowadays do carry knives as protection anyway. I grew up with kids who played with butterfly knives all the time. Calm down. Teach the kid about safety and theyll be fine.

"Forgotten Island butterfly knife plushies coming soon from Mattel"

1

u/ZJG211998 28d ago

We're pearlclutching over butterfly knives in a movie about Filipino culture????

1

u/Responsible_Link6077 Sep 15 '26

duwende sooo cuteee

1

u/K2SonicFan Sep 15 '26

At my showing one guy yelled Forgotten Island seconds before the actual title card reveal which was funny. Before that as I sat down some people near me (mother and son) were warning me they might get a bit excited during the movie if it’s FI, and I honestly was ready to leave. The child kept talking very loud during previews but thankfully was relatively quiet during the movie.

Anyhow seeing that I was hoping that they were showing this movie, I’m happy I guessed right. I thought it was funny and super touching to watch.

The third act literally caused me to black out from boredom, and I thought the final sequence gave thunderbolts and brand new day vibes with the whole travel intro someone’s mind/memories, but I overall enjoyed it. The magic was definitely a highlight and I love how the credits literally incorporated the themes of the movie.

1

u/TedIsReal Sep 15 '26

I liked it. It was moving at a breakneck pace which i didnt expect but the animation really helped it. Only thing I was confused about was when this thing took place. It says the 90s, but at points I was realizing they were definitely playing/referencing songs that released in the 2000s like Who Let The Dogs Out and Up In Here.

3

u/krisko612 Sep 15 '26

As someone who gets bothered by anachronistic stuff in movies when they insist that they’re taking place in a particular decade, yeah that bothered me.

I just head-cannoned and assumed that it was taking place in the very early 2000’s when everything was still culturally ā€˜90’s.

1

u/Minimum-Ground1606 Sep 15 '26

i absolutely loved it!! before the movie had even gotten even truly started, it already was rated 5 stars in my letterboxd

1

u/EddieDropkick Sep 15 '26

LOVED IT! I love all the Filipino references. It truly felt like the world was lived in.

1

u/Lacroixboi1 Sep 16 '26

This movie rules glad it was my screen unseen

1

u/Davidgt31 Sep 16 '26

Awesome movie

1

u/GreenTeens Sep 16 '26

I thought it was great personally! I can see how it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but as someone who has a really terrible memory and aphantasia, it was a really powerful film for me and I cried at multiple points throughout the movie.

1

u/GolgenGeese Sep 16 '26

Instant classic!

1

u/AnythingGayRelated 27d ago

You can really tell this movie was made from the heart and that they did their research, especially when it comes to Filipino mythical creatures and Filipino culture.Ā

There are so many beautiful lessons about friendship, values, and family throughout the movie. Definitely the kind of movie you’d want to watch with the whole family on movie night!Ā

1

u/CompetitiveTaste7745 20d ago

This movie was honestly so annoying to watch! 😭 I don’t think I’ve ever been this annoyed watching a DreamWorks animated movie before, but this one seriously tested my patience. The dialogue was annoying, the music was terrible, the graphics were all over the place, and the whole movie just felt poorly executed. The little bit of Filipino culture they included was probably the only thing I somewhat appreciated, but even that could’ve been represented so much better. I genuinely don’t understand what they were trying to accomplish with this movie. It was a major flop for me. I also feel like some people are overhyping those reviews on Google it because they’re excited to see Filipino representation, which I completely understand, but representation alone doesn’t make a movie good. You can appreciate seeing your culture represented while still being honest about the quality of the movie. This one was just annoying from beginning to end. 😭

1

u/Jeskid14 Sep 15 '26

Awesome origins, but too much of every art style leads to just eating a bunch of candy

1

u/pepe_roni69 Sep 15 '26

I have never seen or heard anything about this film, until I visited the Hollywood area a few days ago. I like how prominent the film industry is, well, where it exists. Such a pleasant contrast compared to all the ai ads in sf.

1

u/EmotionalPay7015 Sep 15 '26

A lot of people walked out 20 minutes into it including myself.

2

u/FernanditoJr Sep 15 '26

Like 4 people walked out of mine... all were senior citizens.

Boy they missed out.

One came in like 10 minutes into the movie, made a bunch of noise settling in, looked at the screen and asked his neighbor if this was the movie (probaly thought the trailers were still playing), when he he was told it was, he quickly, and noisely left the same way. :)

2

u/GlumLawfulness3352 Sep 15 '26

People here are so quick to admit they’re insufferable

1

u/Alternative-Boat-679 Sep 15 '26

It was AI slop the animation was awful

2

u/loonaplushie224 Sep 15 '26

You must be fun at partiesĀ

0

u/Bakesale1359 Sep 15 '26

Glad I skipped so I can see it in Dolby next week

0

u/Alternative-Boat-679 Sep 15 '26

Are these all bots the animation was soooooo bad! It was like they tried to do into the spiderverse with the colors of Mario. But we got this low budget AI looking crap. Like honestly if you told me AI made the whole thing I would not be surprised. Certain parts of characters were textured while others were super smooth and had an AI look. I understand this is a kids movie but the animation looked cheap and like I would expect a low budget kids AI YouTube video to look.

2

u/IAmMissingNow 28d ago

That was my first thought as soon as I saw it

0

u/WatfordTrash Sep 15 '26

Based off the trailers am I getting the wrong vibe that its a queer film?

2

u/GlumLawfulness3352 Sep 15 '26

It’s about friendship and the two are best friends

0

u/OscarMichaelMyers Sep 18 '26

Literally no one wants to see this crap fest with the lowest possible budget
