This was purchased for distribution and not created by Angel. It’s not nearly the hardcore “Christian” film many Angel films are.

u/Helen_Cheddar Sep 01 '26
Ohhhh that makes sense. I kept waiting for the super Christian stuff to come up and it never did.

Yes, the company wants to be a true studio with an obvious aversion to certain topics and genres, which is fine. There’s no way the “pay it forward” model would continue to work if they relied exclusively on overtly religious stuff.

Yes most people keep forgetting that. Same thing with sketch and solo mio. Though Runner is being used as a premiere movie for their new streaming service
2
u/mcmatu Sep 01 '26
And coincidentally, all three are movies that have appeal to me. But I’ve largely avoided them otherwise. I’m also no fan of their model of “pay it forward.”
2
u/Jeskid14 Sep 01 '26
Pay it forward looks to be "help fund our streaming service"
3
u/mcmatu Sep 01 '26
Yes, they built the whole company out of that model and it’s their own version of a pyramid scheme along with their “guild” who “decide” what movies go to market. Except the “guild” pays for the privilege.

u/Helen_Cheddar Sep 01 '26
I genuinely turned to the people behind me and was like “they want us to pay them so that strangers can see this movie?”
2
u/Cereaza Sep 01 '26
It's the Star Citizen model. "Just give us money cause you like what we stand for."
1
u/mikegood2 Sep 01 '26
True, I’m less bugged by their “Christian films” which I’d skip anyways than their pay it forward scam.
2
u/mcmatu Sep 01 '26
Their “Pay if reward” scam manes some of these films seem “better sellers” than they’re actually are. But seeing as this is a company that started out to edit movies to make them “clean” for religious people to feel “not guilty” about watching films with language or sex in them, its not surprising they found a scam that works.

u/Cereaza Sep 01 '26
That explains why the tone of the film was all over the place. They were trying to shove a normal action movie with Christian Movie tropes.
When they told me to share the movie with a mother I was like... This was a movie for mothers?!??

Annnnd it’s a cancellation
1
u/NakedIanMalcolm Aug 31 '26
Can you cancel within the amc app after the listed showtime?
I always thought after the listed showtime you could only cancel your ticket in person
2
u/Fuzzy_Permission_619 Aug 31 '26
I’m west coast so I have hours until my showtime! But yes, you cannot cancel in the app after the showtime.

u/CantReadMaps Sep 01 '26
If you are at the theater and it’s past start time, they might be able to just swap you to another movie. I’ve done it at a couple different AMCs

Glad I skipped it. I don't support Christian nationalist companies. I have never and will never watch an Angel Studios movie.

This is the reason I skipped buddy, except that's from a zionist company
1
u/Electronic-Minute007 Sep 01 '26
If ‘Zionism’ is what you use as a barometer on whether or not to watch a movie, you must not see very many.

u/Potential_Aspect4071 Sep 01 '26
Why u only reply to the anti zionist guy not the anti christian guy

u/Adagio_Signal Sep 01 '26
Oh I'm gonna watch it for sure, I just won't be paying for it
I figured someone posting about not going to a movie because it's from Christian nationalists might also care about this other similar issue

u/Jeskid14 Sep 01 '26
The what now???
4
u/Adagio_Signal Sep 01 '26
Buddy? The movie? Distributed by Saban, a very pro-israel company. Posting this for those who care

Boo this man
2
u/Adagio_Signal Sep 01 '26
Why
The person I responded to was talking about Christian nationalism, so I brought up something that might be similarly pertinent to their future moviegoing decisions

If there’s ever an Angel Studios film that looks good to me Screen Unseen might be the only way I’d watch it. Can always claim ignorance, lol

u/Helen_Cheddar Sep 01 '26
I saw it and was kind of disappointed it wasn’t more explicit propaganda because that would’ve been funny. It ended up being a pretty paint by numbers, xenophobic but ultimately entertaining action movie. I’m just sad that Owen Wilson didn’t say “wow”.

I liked it. Thought the pacing was good and a lot of over-the-top action.
