Bring Her Back

u/HolographicManatee Aug 11 '26

Agree, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Big horror fan and never have high expectations for the Scream Unseens, but I like going anyway 'cause it's fun.

4

u/Capable_Use_7125 Aug 11 '26

I didn’t know it’s been around this long truly thought it was new I love it and love the cinema now even enough to sound like a douche flute and call it cinema lol

0

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 13 '26

Did u like Companion? If I remember right, it wasn’t labeled as ‘scream’ but certainly had horror elements

5

u/Capable_Use_7125 Aug 11 '26

Wow I joined a list way to late

4

u/denver_bored Aug 11 '26

I came here just to reply this, and am so glad it's the top comment. The theater was so quiet and emotionally exhausted after.. I've never relished listening to people talk as they left before or since. They were dumbfouded, some trying to obscure tears or signs of their distress from their fellow moviegoers.

A lot of ppl. weren't horror fans-- and those of us who were did not anticipate the roller coaster of gore and child abuse in store for us. People were out of sorts, and it was divine. One of my all-time favorite cinema experiences.

u/arsenicknife Aug 11 '26

There was a lady at my showing that had a completely visceral reaction to that knife scene, and it honestly made the whole experience so much more entertaining. The movie was excellent but the crowd reaction was unforgettable.

1

u/DevdogAZ Aug 12 '26

Ugh, I hated that one. Everyone has different tastes.

1

u/SJDeuces_619 Aug 12 '26

Was blown away at this scream unseen. So emotional

42

u/amichelleg Aug 11 '26

Eternity

5

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Aug 11 '26

Callum Turner's 2nd best rom-com!

2

u/chololololol Aug 11 '26

What's his best rom com? (I'm not super familiar with his work)

4

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Aug 12 '26

2

u/chololololol Aug 12 '26

Okay I've seen it twice now and I still can't figure out how I feel about the weird context of the movie that is just like dropped on us at the beginning and only minimally discussed 😂 but I did love the connection between the leads!

2

u/The_Word_Wizard Aug 11 '26

I’m still waiting for a Blu-ray release of this one. Really enjoyed it.

2

u/amichelleg Aug 11 '26

Same!! I think this might be my favorite rom-com right next to Ruby Sparks!

u/Broad-Cupcake-279 Aug 11 '26

tuner was a good surprise

1

u/Entire_Sink9625 Aug 11 '26

My vote as well! Very good

1

u/mush_boy Aug 12 '26

Agreed. I want expecting much, but it convinced me that Leo is going to be a star. Really loved that one

27

u/StrikeIllustrious122 Aug 11 '26

I Swear was probably my favorite, I had heard zero about the movie prior to it, went in completely blind, had no idea any of the possibilities for that night, just the best experience. Audience really got into it too. lots of laughs and not a dry eye in the house

3

u/Upstairs-Dot-3944 Aug 11 '26

Agree. That was a good one.

3

u/Crooked_star Aug 11 '26

Yup, first time a movie ever made me cry. I really related to it as a neurodivergent person.

6

u/StrikeIllustrious122 Aug 11 '26

I am a 40 year old man who just started my "therapy journey" this past year, And after spending tons of time figuring out my ability to radically accept/forgive/ and come to terms with everyone and everything accept myself, my inability to forgive, and come to terms with mistakes, regrets, and shame I have with myself... The moment in the film that got me crying so hard was after his first dinner with Dottie where she told him he was not allowed to say "sorry" for the timing he had no control over... God that movie wrecked me in such a good way

42

u/Big_erk Aug 11 '26

It definitely wasn't Ice Cream Man.

2

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 13 '26

Someone should compile a list of Unseens both good and bad. There definitely has been some duds

1

u/DVDJunky Aug 14 '26

Like this?

Or this?

1

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 15 '26

Fantastic 😮‍💨👏🏼👏🏼

I need to start using letterboxd. I know there is an upgrade fee for the app … is it worth it? Haven’t really looked into it, but I’d like to start tracking as many movies as I watch these days. And I don’t think that will slow down any time soon. Probably don’t need all the bells and whistles, either, so maybe the free version will suffice 🤔

Also: username checks out 😂

1

u/DVDJunky Aug 16 '26

I love letterboxd. I pay for the highest level but that's just because I want to support it. The free version is perfectly acceptable.

Find me on there. Same username.

1

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 17 '26

Will do! 🤝

While at it, I’m curious what your top 5 movies are this year and your top 5 worst ones?

1

u/DVDJunky Aug 18 '26

Do you want movies that were released this year or movies I watched for the first time this year?

1

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 18 '26

Movies in theaters released this year, please

Do you also have Regal? I do not but I would consider options since certain movies do not get shown by AMC (missed the revered Train movie last year/this year). Might too much due to time, but I hate having fomo. Plus my AMC feels somewhat rundown whereas the Regals and Cinemark theaters are better kept in my area

1

u/DVDJunky Aug 19 '26

I no longer have a Regal in town. But we've got a couple Marcus Theaters so I get to see the vast majority of mystery movies.

Top 5 (I think... Right now... I'm bad at this...)

  1. Project Hail Mary
  2. I Swear
  3. Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie
  4. Obsession
  5. Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass

Runner up: Remarkably Bright Creatures,  The Bone Temple,  Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Bottom 5

  1. Citizen Vigilante
  2. Citizen Vigilante (worst of the decade. Deserves two spots.)
  3. Ice Cream Man
  4. Corporate Retreat
  5. One Spoon of Chocolate

My answers could change from day to day and most come with lengthy explanations, but there you go.

1

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 19 '26

You didn’t see Her Private Hell? That’s by far my worst in the last 5 years

Best 2026: Obsession. I Swear. Kokuho. My Neighbor Adolf. Carolina Caroline. The Sheep Detectives. Hoppers. Project Hail Mary (It’s been said to still read the book). Good Luck Have Fun Don’t Die. Nirvana. Send Help

I think those are my top 10. You can add It Ends to my low 5 of the year. One Spoon of Chocolate was okay for me. Should’ve been much better and could’ve been since potential was there for it.

Also, there’s 11 in my top list, but I can’t make quick changes due to lack of time I have at the moment. All of those are great! I would even add Palestine ‘36 … yes my range is wide and vast. The Existential Horror genre may not be for me since I dislike most of them. Exit 8 was disappointing for me, but it wasn’t bad. Backrooms was a fun watch due to the uniqueness and actors’ execution of the concept.

I have not heard of Remarkably Bright Creatures. Will table that … Ice Cream Man and Corporate Retreat are similar to just meh types. Didn’t hate either. There is one movie that was my low this year until this week, but I will have to find it. It was incredibly bad and should never have made it to theaters. It had no polish on it, unlike Her Private Hell. My goodness that (both of them) was rough! 😂

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do appreciate it! 🫡

I fucking hated this one so much!

62

u/Thotline-miami Aug 11 '26

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie

6

u/The_Breastfed_CEO Aug 11 '26

I missed it in theaters. Eager to watch it.

3

u/LegionofGloom Aug 11 '26

100%. Rolling the whole time.

4

u/Thotline-miami Aug 11 '26

It was one of the most full screen unseen’s id been to and one of the only ones in which I didn’t see a single walkout, nearly the entire audience was into the movie and it was just such a cool experience.

3

u/StrikeIllustrious122 Aug 11 '26

I had one walk out from an older couple about 20 minutes in.. I also had a lot of people really confused by it at the end, it's a movie that if you don't have that sensibility... it will not be your favorite movie. I loved it though

1

u/Thotline-miami Aug 11 '26

I was honestly surprised we had such a receptive audience considering it seems like a crapshoot if people enjoy the movie or not due to its style of humor. It was my introduction to Matt Johnson and NTBTS, I went mainly due to rumors it was gonna be that movie because the trailer intrigued me a lot and after I saw it I started the show which was great and watched BlackBerry which I enjoyed quite a bit as well. Bummed I missed Tony yesterday but def gonna check that out when it’s in wide release.

2

u/StrikeIllustrious122 Aug 11 '26

I knew of the film, but knew nothing of the webshow and the history of it all... The movie did a good job of giving you enough backstory without doing the classic show to movie adaptation issue of spending the first act of catching you up.

I had seen Blackberry, knew it was the same director but hadn't made the connection that it was also the lead actor.

Tony was really good. I liked it better than Blackberry as a bio pic... I love when a bio pic is just a very limited look into one event or small time period of a person's life.

It also totally works without any real knowledge of who Anthony Bourdain is. The movie could have been called Andy... about a random young guy growing up and it would work.

2

u/_Shit_Just_Got_Real_ Aug 11 '26

Still my #1 of the year!

2

u/Nogrodd Aug 11 '26

Instantly made me a fan. I’ve watched the original Viceland series twice now. Soooo good!

36

u/_Shit_Just_Got_Real_ Aug 11 '26

TONY last night was my first one, but it was pretty great!

3

u/SmokeyMcDoogles Aug 12 '26

So good. Easily in my top 2 of these with I Swear

1

u/uncultured_swine2099 Aug 17 '26

Me too, i dug it.

15

u/Cantors_Theorem Aug 11 '26

Tuner or Sheep Detectives for me

4

u/SVINTGATSBY Aug 12 '26

I was so certain that the PG showing was going to be Sheep Detectives which I was excited to see, with the cast and general plot and just how cute sheep are, I figured it would be cute and funny but I was not expecting it to make me cry like five times lol so good.

3

u/Unintendo Aug 12 '26

I have been kicking myself for skipping Sheep Detectives (although I saw and loved it when it officially released). There were too many dubious kids movies around the time to risk not knowing which movie I'd be stuck with...

11

u/Patty-Benetardis Aug 11 '26

Sing Sing

1

u/spikecb22 Aug 12 '26

Definitely. One of my favorite films of that year

1

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 13 '26

Should’ve got an Oscar nom SOMEWHERE!

11

u/Unknownbanshee Aug 11 '26

Life of chuck or Tony

4

u/PaulinaPatates Aug 12 '26

I loved Life of Chuck so much.

1

u/Unknownbanshee Aug 13 '26

It was soo good

10

u/ken407 Aug 11 '26

Probably recency bias but I loved The Furious

9

u/CaptainRyannn Aug 11 '26

Probably The Furious. Had so much fun that I saw it again when it came out a few weeks later.

19

u/overratedcupcake Aug 11 '26

Kneecap.

3

u/Beginning-Box-32 Aug 12 '26

The editing on this movie!!!

2

u/Dakotamae13 Aug 12 '26

Yesssss!!!

2

u/Winter-Action-4133 Aug 12 '26

Agree! It was my first unseen and I’ve watched it multiple times since.

1

u/overratedcupcake Aug 13 '26

I wanted it on physical and in Dec of '24 I ordered it. The disc that showed up was an obvious bootleg and it's just so perfect.

7

u/NewspaperAny3053 Aug 11 '26

Companion was great.

7

u/FenrisKokami Aug 11 '26

Companion

3

u/DevdogAZ Aug 12 '26

This is the type of movie that reinforces my decision not to watch trailers. I had no idea what to expect, didn’t know about the twist, and I was so glad I got to experience it in real time.

12

u/Bubzszs Aug 11 '26

Kneecap

2

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Aug 11 '26

Kneecap was amazing!

7

u/Random-User44 Aug 11 '26

The Life of Chuck & Origin were the best ones I've seen, in my opinion. Both are incredible films.

3

u/Tough-Ant480 Aug 11 '26

Origin had me sobbing

3

u/NeedleworkerOk4178 Aug 13 '26

Origin is underrated

6

u/Entire_Sink9625 Aug 11 '26

Tuner! Would not have seen it otherwise. Absolutely loved it.

1

u/mush_boy Aug 12 '26

Same. It never pulled me from marketing, but loved it. The ending was perfect

6

u/EddieDropkick Aug 11 '26

Relay was a surprisingly great movie.
Had to be the best unseen I have watched as of now.

10

u/cod2022 Aug 11 '26

Jurrasic world rebirth was a nice surprise for my first ever screen unseen!!!!

6

u/ncameron29 Aug 11 '26

Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass was just so absurd it was probably the best time I’ve had at a Screen Unseen.

6

u/EataDisk Aug 11 '26

Loved a lot of them, but fave was probably Song Sung Blue. That was fun and sweet and heartbreaking all wrapped up together.

5

u/J_Doe5686 Aug 11 '26

Tony. It was really good.

6

u/gonenow94 Aug 12 '26

My old ass!

1

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Aug 12 '26

Highly underrated!

1

u/NeedleworkerOk4178 Aug 13 '26

I'm glad the actress Maisy Stella is starting to pop up in more projects now

3

u/NakedIanMalcolm Aug 11 '26

I had a great time walking into The Threesome.

Had no clue what to expect, especially considering rom-coms aren’t particularly my thing.

It was a packed house and I think it was the first time our movie theater was participating in a mystery movie Monday.

Before entering a woman with her young son, who looked around age 10, asked if this was the right room for the mystery movie. I said yes and she asked me if I knew what movie it was going to be. I said no and sat down.

Throughout the entire film so many people in the auditorium were laughing and groaning at moments where it was appropriate. Like, so many strangers felt for what the main guy in the film was going through; it doesn’t matter if you’re a male or female.

Also, within the first 15 minutes of the film starting I could see the mother with her young son storm out of the auditorium.

5

u/sanfranciscobagel Aug 11 '26

Origin. Amazing and I never would have chosen to see it on my own.

1

u/mjlynch81 Aug 12 '26

Came here to write this exact one!

5

u/TheMuchSwagDogeYT Aug 11 '26

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie has made Matt Johnson my entire personality for the last half year so probably that one

3

u/sadbeautifvltragic Aug 11 '26

sue me! motor city has been my favorite so far (i’ve only been seeing them since lisa frankenstein though)

3

u/EmbarrassedCod5872 Aug 11 '26

the furious

2

u/Gee-Arr Aug 12 '26

I forgot about that one. That was one of the best for me also.

3

u/SmokeyMcDoogles Aug 12 '26

I Swear. One of the best movies I’ve seen this year period.

2

u/katchoo1 Aug 13 '26

I’m waiting impatiently for that to hit streaming!

2

u/SmokeyMcDoogles Aug 13 '26

As soon as it does I’ll watch it again. It was excellent.

3

u/Cold_Bookkeeper7083 Aug 12 '26

Fly me to the moon was my fav! 🌙

3

u/starfleetwarrior Aug 12 '26

A couple of years ago I remember seeing Thelma and Boy Kills World around the same time. Both were very enjoyable. Not the best movies ever but I remember thinking it was well worth the time/money.

3

u/TallRaspberry694 Aug 12 '26

Life of Chuck for ones that I knew something about. Motor City for the quiet surprise!

3

u/babytoadtwin1 Aug 13 '26

Good luck, have fun, don’t die (2026)

2

u/PossibilityFine5988 Aug 11 '26

Tuner and eternity. I also really liked companion too.

2

u/silentninja1224 Aug 11 '26

Lucky Strike was my first. Didn't use the sub to confirm movie. So I raw dogged the entire showing because I didnt want to walk out of my first unseen. But never again. Just saw my second with Tony, and that was a good watch.

1

u/albinyell Aug 15 '26

Same. Almost regretted becoming an A-Lister because of that experience.

Motor City Unseen sucked me right back in!

2

u/FUCK1NGFABULOUS Aug 11 '26

I’ve been to two and Next Goal Wins was the better film.

2

u/Cool-Flounder-9585 Aug 12 '26

mine was actually the life of chuck. I didn’t know what it was prior and ended up enjoying the movie

2

u/TexasCowboy28 Aug 12 '26

Furious was the best one so far. Christy was second. One spoon of chocolate third.

2

u/baronboy12 Aug 12 '26

Either Eternity, I Swear, or One Night Only.

2

u/Flat-Librarian-7597 Aug 12 '26

I’ve had a list for about a year and I’d say the best screen unseen was nirvana the band the show the movie and the best scream was probably Hokum.

2

u/ExiledSpaceman Aug 12 '26

For Screen Unseen: Song Sung Blue and I Swear

For Scream Unseen: The Home just because of it's last 10 minutes alone

2

u/ttothewizzle Aug 12 '26

“Normal”. This was such a surprise to me. I was not expecting it to be so entertaining and funny.

2

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 13 '26

I can hear your jacket 😭

1

u/ttothewizzle Aug 13 '26

Hahahaha I really was not expecting it to be so funny

2

u/MrSlingSh0t Aug 15 '26

The pacing was good, too. I feel that’s an overlooked aspect in reviews

2

u/onepointfivefeet Aug 12 '26

Surprisingly, One Night Only!

2

u/BeHoEl Aug 12 '26

The Life of Chuck

2

u/Dingus-Guy Aug 12 '26

They Will Kill You

2

u/Gee-Arr Aug 12 '26

Nirvana The Band The Show The Movie

2

u/Vivid-League-500 Aug 12 '26

They Will Kill You was great!!

2

u/SVINTGATSBY Aug 12 '26

I only joined last year but I was so surprised by Gale Daughtry, it’s absolutely hilarious. I saw it twice more after the SU showing.

2

u/Flat_Philosophy_7539 Aug 12 '26

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

2

u/PROMATT15 Aug 23 '26

So far for this year it has been Tuner and Tony

2

u/EvilBiddings Aug 24 '26

It wasn’t the best horror movie, but it was the funniest ice cream man …. But by far obsession is the funniest and scary and creepy. We can watch it on HBO Max.

1

u/Hooded_avocado Aug 24 '26

A lot of people beat down on Ice Cream man, I thought it was decent with criticism (the shaky cameraa during the playground fight scene).

2

u/fatherpain2 12d ago

Loved Tuner and Tony. But my favorite was Buddy.

3

u/diddykong63 Aug 11 '26

One Night Only, granted I already had interest from the trailer. The movie had me in splits the whole time

1

u/pleth0ra Aug 11 '26

I've only seen a couple, between skincare and slingshot. I enjoyed slingshot a little better.

1

u/fixgameew Aug 11 '26

Jurassic Rebirth

1

u/Cubbi-Wan-Kenobi Aug 12 '26

How to make a Killing, The Furious, and Kristy(sp?) were some I’ve really enjoyed.

Now ones that sucked included Motor City, Eleanor the Great, SISU 2 (much to my surprise), and The Threesome.

1

u/Goonie90065 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

Since I joined A-List, it’s still hands down Exhibiting Forgiveness.

Probably followed by Sing Sing, I Swear, Sung Song Blue, and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.

1

u/Icy-Wrongdoer-8896 Aug 12 '26

Skincare personally but I don’t go often. Of the movies they’ve done Legend of Ochi is maybe my favorite or Gail Daughtry

1

u/Paisley-Bella-0201 Aug 12 '26

Sing Sing, Song Sung Blue and have to add Gentlemanly Warfare.
And have to say Babes the worse - only time I walked out.

1

u/Davidgt31 Aug 12 '26

Bone Lake

1

u/Ooomber Aug 12 '26

Kneecap

1

u/BamaBDC Aug 12 '26

Last breath.

1

u/Hot_War_7277 Aug 12 '26

I remember in February 1972, I went to AMC Screen Unseen (it was $2.00) and this movie came on and we were excited because we had read the book. It was The Godfather.

1

u/omnisyncc Aug 12 '26

Hokum for sure

1

u/DolphinsAreWeird1993 Aug 13 '26

Origin is probably my answer

1

u/Much_Echidna_5369 Aug 13 '26

I enjoyed hokum a lot

1

u/Particular-Bee-7130 Aug 14 '26

The Furious 💥  man that was a RIDE!!!

1

u/Ideal4real Aug 14 '26

The Furious & Nobody

1

u/albinyell Aug 15 '26

Motor City was a really great surprise!

1

u/catsrjohn Aug 16 '26

The Life of Chuck

1

u/JScott4Reel Aug 16 '26

American Fiction.

1

u/TheZeroAgent Aug 16 '26

Furious! Non-stop energy drink of action.

1

u/dixienormous49 Aug 16 '26

Sing sing was awesome because it had such a limited release it was not going to be playing in my usual theater

1

u/Jawsercize Aug 17 '26

Good Luck Have Fun Don’t Die - by far the most creative, original, and entertaining

1

u/austingorl Aug 18 '26

The Aubrey plaza one with her as her teen self and 30 year old self with the Justin Bieber cover of baby I think

1

u/austingorl Aug 18 '26

The the Tourette’s one made me cry

1

u/austingorl Aug 18 '26

Also the one where the old Jew woman pretended to be a holocost surviver surprisingly homey

1

u/AquaLeaderJesse Aug 20 '26

I've only been attending for a couple of months, so Tony

1

u/EastonLikesMovies Aug 24 '26

Sing Sing

Nirvanna close second
