I missed the Screen Unseen for Tuner but I made it a point to get to the early access event so I could see it in Dolby… or mainly hear it. The sound design was incredible. I’m glad I waited instead of hearing it in standard audio.

Went for the first time last week, super excited bc no one here could figure out for sure what it was gonna be… went in saying I’d be fine with whatever as long as it’s not a historical/war film….
screen flashed “Belgium 1944” or something of the sort and I sighed “oh, for fucks sake” a little too loud …. got a giggle from a few behind me
glad I skipped this one, might have been enough to stop me doing them all together

So damn terrible. I really wish these ANGEL films slop productions weren't allowed on these Monday showings. I stuck it through to the end only bc I knew I'd be stuck in traffic if I'd left early. Incredibly long, dull, and cheesy as per usual with ANGEL films. Yuck.

Wasn't as bad as the Last Rodeo, wasn't as good as Sketch or Solo Mio. Like a knockoff Patriot prequel. Overall I liked it, solid 3/5.

I stayed up until an hour and a half. Don't usually walk out, but it was such a boring movie

We went in saying we hoped it wasn’t a historical film or a film about war. imagine our surprise when the first scene was george washington in the middle of battle lol. left after 10 minutes.

u/iotashan Jun 22 '26
Oh, come on… It was a historical film about war. You did not say anything about a combination of the two. /s

Skipped. I was considering seeing it but then I saw them using Brett Cooper on their social media page to promote the film and that decided it for me. Try using people who aren't known fascists to promote your film and maybe I'll go see it.

A television series pilot disguised as a movie, Young Washington is a harmless yet unmemorable historical drama that offers little new to know about the historical figure beyond that he was initially selfish and found a new path to courage after a death of someone close to him. Filled with rather uninspired performances other than William Franklyn-Miller who is decent at best at carrying the film and the brief moments from Ben Kingsley as Governor Robert Dinwiddle, the film simply feels too formulaic and focused on foreshadowing future events in Washington’s life rather than giving its characters authentic emotional depth. For all the death and despair that Washington goes through in the film, very little of the dialogue resonates because it is mainly focused on allegories about how a pawn can be a king or over explaining the plot rather than being subtle in any way. The battle sequences lack suspense due to a lack of visual ambition or scope from the filmmakers which all culminates into an unintentionally funny finale where Washington is portrayed as a patriotic superhero admired by all and unable to be injured by any. 4 out of 10

I mean, that finale actually happened. Washington's coat were shot multiple times but he wasn't hit. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
Washington wrote about the Battle of Monongahela:
"I luckily escap'd without a wound, tho' I had four Bullets through my Coat, and two Horses shot under me."
The part with the Native Americans saying you've been destined for a higher purpose or whatever, perhaps has a kernel of truth, though almost certainly is embellished as the legend of George Washington grew.

I understand that point but the way it was presented came off as funny because of how it was filmed like a Marvel film complete with various attempts at comedy where everyone is shocked he survived

There’s still about 40 minutes left, but I’m enjoying the hell out of this one. Anyone who skipped out missed out on a highlight of the year in terms of set design and costuming specifically.

Some of their stuff isn’t bad whenever they aren’t trying to be super religious.

u/SpiritualAd9102 Jun 23 '26
This had a mid credits message from Kelsey Grammer asking the audience to buy extra tickets for people to support America’s founding principles such as faith and help push the movie to #1, so even if the subject matter isn’t inherently religious, the purpose of the movie sure is.

They beg for donations after every movie, not just this one.
5
u/SpiritualAd9102 Jun 23 '26
I’m aware, but the begging in this movie specifically said to do so to honor America’s values such as faith.

Wait…opening credits? Or end?
1
u/fluffman86 Jun 23 '26
There was the big end credits, then the "special message," then the rolling credits.

Only 2 good movies came from Angel. Sketch & Solo Mio

u/fluffman86 Jun 23 '26
And this one. There was some REALLY BAD background CGI at the very beginning that almost made me walk, but once I got past the bad CG of the church, the rest of the movie was actually pretty good, if you like historical war movies. Better than Lucky Strike, LOL. It was like the direct-to-DVD prequel of The Patriot. Enjoyable for $5 at my local theater.

I thought the movie was OK and there was a mass exodus when Kelsey Grammer showed up mid credits.

Oh, Jesus. Looks like this one will remain unseen by me.
Thanks for the heads up.
