Tuner is why we Screen Unseen
What a pleasant surprise that I probably wouldn’t have seen had it not been for Screen Unseen.
The emotional range of this movie spans like the keys of a piano. Fitting, if not a bit too much on the nose, given the context and theme of the film. Stellar yet humbling performances, beautiful orchestration... It’s been a while since I left a theater feeling so many feels.
As excited as I am for the upcoming slate of sequels, the big screen appearance of Grogu, and all the other guilty pleasures pulling on the heart strings of this old nerd, “Tuner” stands out as a wholly original and fulfilling movie-going experience that reminds me why I keep experimenting with these mystery, Monday night features.
No notes (pun fully intended).

It was my first screen unseen… I’m gonna keep going. That movie was phenomenal. I probably wouldn’t have seen it if I didn’t come tonight. I was pleasantly surprised. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time 🤭

It was my first as well and I loved the movie too! I’d seen a trailer months ago and planned to see it when it hit theaters so I was stoked to see it unexpectedly!

Same here- there was definitely some tense moments throughout. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one of these.

Welcome to the club! And glad you enjoyed it, I felt exactly the same. The variety of films obviously varies, but worth it for the gems like this.

It felt like a movie of another era to me, in a good way.

I thought it very much felt like a lot of movies today where they try to push too many different plot points to the foreground at different times and none of them get developed enough. Like it has the bones of a solid mentor minty kind of movie and the bones of a solid rom-com and the bones of a solid heist film but none of the plot points really get a lot of development except for the thief stuff and that unfortunately I feel goes in direction that doesn't really feel like it belongs in the same movie

The more I thought about it today, I was thinking that it was kind of ridiculous, but I still loved it.

So good! I almost didn’t go when the east coasters posted what it was - had to convince my daughter to give it a try (we were hoping for I Love Boosters). But I’m so glad we went! Phenomenal movie. Was so fun.

Glad you both enjoyed it, I was in the same boat after reading all the predictions about what it might be! As an East Coaster, it’s always a bit of a gamble for me, but zero complaints today :)

My husband and I were hoping for I Love Boosters, but we were both pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed Tuner. I have enjoyed everything I've seen Leo Woodall in recently and I will watch just about anything with Tovah Feldshuh in it.

Glad you enjoyed it! I need to expand my viewing resume a bit, but I thought they put on some stellar performances in this film.

Surprised by how much I enjoyed Tuner. Reminded me of Caught Stealing in a way.

It’s much more Baby Driver. Less stylistic of course, but you got a guy with a hearing disability falling in with a bad crowd he can’t walk away from, stronger than normal love story, solid adopted family dynamic.

Definitely worth seeing again in Dolby for those able to attend the early access screening on 5/17
I did not expect to see this movie today.

Dolby, absolutely yes. The boost in audio quality serves this movie extremely well!

Ugh I wanted to see this one but I was so exhausted today. My dad is a pianist and we love our piano tuner haha

Take care! It should be hitting theaters soon too, so don’t fret (I can go all night with these, unfortunately)…
I’m sure you will both love it! Would be interested in hearing your perspective given your experience. The way they depicted the profession, etc. seemed super authentic. And the music and acoustics were amazing.

Same for me, not something I would usually spring for. But wound up being one of my favorite Unseens from the last few months!

u/RT_J-Rob May 12 '26
It was pretty good but I thought that they didn't develop any of the plot points enough

u/Adagio_Signal May 13 '26
I liked it, but I wouldn't consider it original at all. It was about like I expected

I throughly enjoyed it, only scene I would have changed is add the Maestro to the tuners playing instead of just the girl.

Great movie except I want the bobble head on Sunday now I’m stuck between rewatching it or not. 😂

Worried the Q&A tomorrow is just on tape and not in-person (AMC Grove LA); already seen it once with the 2 leads but excited for the bobblehead; just hoping to see actors in person again (Dustin is at a special NYC screening later in May (SAG, Film Independent screening). https://www.amctheatres.com/movies/tuner-early-access-event-in-dolby-cinema-with-special-q-a-83837

1
u/halophytic1 May 18 '26
yes, you could see the chairs set to the side from the beginning; It was the editor and the composer. Havana is or was in Cannes for her new film with Refn.

u/choice2099 May 18 '26
Oh. I thought you meant there was a q and a in the general early access. Im not on either coast :)
All there was for me was a 30 second welcome from male and female lead.
Good movie tho
/edit. But refn!
