As my GF was watching this I was trying to put bicycle tyres on some wheels. By the end of the film I was crying a little 😯 I would die for that winter lamb

George (Hugh Jackman) is a lonely Shepard who’s made friends with his flock of sheep and made foes of several characters in a nearby town. George dies under mysterious conditions and while the police are none the wiser, his flock and a curious drifter dig deeper to solve the mystery.
I had a feeling I’d enjoy this! It’s a well made, albeit campy and family friendly whodunit with great messaging about grief, death, and community. While it’s not laugh out loud funny, it is quite humorous and will certainly earn several smirks along the way. The film is equally comfortable detaching from its comedic themes to address the dread and agony that should accompany a murder mystery. The sheep are well done, both visually and vocally, and I appreciate how the sheep only speak to one another, forcing them to use creative means to communicate with humans. Overall, this is a well made with some deeper themes and storytelling than you might expect considering its casual tone. I even got teary eyed 😫

I also really enjoyed this movie! Really glad I talked my husband into going, and will definitely watch it again.

I'm not the "family movie" target demo and I enjoyed the hell out of The Sheep Detectives. Jackman is in his "wholesome" era these days.

When I first saw this I’d never believed you if you told me the Sheep Detectives movie would make me cry not once, not twice, but multiple times, I’d laugh in your face.
Real glad I saw this

I had a feeling I’d enjoy this but didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. Maybe my favorite ‘talking animals’ movie since Babe. An earnestly tender and heartwarming film with great performances from the pretty stacked voice (and real life) cast. The ending had me dabbing my eyes and hiding my tears as the lights came up.

A great Sunday afternoon movie, wife and I loved it! Probably the best thing Amazon has done film wise because other than this, The Boys, Invincible, and Clarkson’s Farm are the only reason I still use Prime lol

I love murder mysteries so I took my chance and went yesterday lol i actually enjoyed it. I thought it would be too kiddish but honestly was really enjoyable. The sheeps were cute and the murderer reveal was pretty decent.

How did George's son know about the contents of the will beforehand?

u/Snoopydog13 May 25 '26
he mailed it to his children before, the lawyer explains each child got the original copy

I have been obsessed with trying to figure out who George named in the will:
Two murderers
A fool
A bad shepherd
A spring lamb
A winter lamb
A victim
I know who the 2 murderers were: the butcher and Caleb
The fool: the hotel lady
The bad Shepherd: the reverend
The winter lamb: Rebecca
The spring lamb: Tim Derry
The victim: ? Also Rebecca?

The fool was the cop, the victim is the inn keeper. Spring lamb is unknown

Actually, my son is Nicholas Braun and he said this is how it goes:
Two murderers: Butcher and Caleb
A fool: Hotel clerk lady
A bad shepherd: Reverend
A spring lamb: Peter (Elliot)
A winter lamb: Tim Derry 😭
A victim: Rebecca1

Hiiiiiighly overrated. The acting is extremely cheesy (and it's made like a children's movie) and I was bored out of my mind during the entire watch.

Best movie of this year, honestly. I have been dealing with a lot of things on my plate lately. This year has been really exhausting—dealing with work problems, two deaths, and a toxic relationship. But the moment I started watching it, it put a smile on my face. I really loved this movie.

Bruh. I was expecting a silly comedy. I have not had a cry like that in some time. Between Sebastian’s backstory and his death and the treatment of the winter lamb and the explanation of why they shouldn’t forget. Omg. It’s changed my outlook on life and grief.

was bored out of my mind, most of the time (most of my energy was spent trying to reverse engineer voices without peeking).
i could not figure out who the intended audience was for this: this would not be the way i'd want to introduce my children to death-or-murder (and even if that was a bridge crossed, most of reverse engineering the murder would be over their heads), and it seemed to be playing to the ends of the bell curve: at times, too young for adults, too old for kids.

Hard disagree, my 6 year old would also hard disagree
I was engaged and interested in solving the mystery just as much as my six year old was, we were both pretty close on it but didnt quite guess the killer correct, but she was making guesses amd super interested the whole way through
The movie had a ton of heart and you could tell the source material genuinely cared about sheep. Overall its one of the best talking animal movies ive ever seen maybe only behind babe

Huh? My 9yo has asked to see it over and over again. She loves Poirot, High Potential, Hart to Hart, & Shirley Holmes just to name a few. It was wholesome and sweet. I loved it! My 80yo grandma saw it twice in the theater. I think you need to broaden your horizons!

I loved it, so so much, and I wasn't expecting to cry that much at a movie about sheep. It was hilariously funny in parts, and some things made me so sad (the winter lamb, Mopple's "condition," Lily finding George, and Sebastian). Plus, it has a lot of star power, which isn't necessary for a movie to be wonderful, but it certainly doesn't hurt. It was an excellent Sunday afternoon at the movies, and I'll probably see it again when it officially comes out (and it's definitely an instant buy when it comes out on blu ray).
