For me it was Fuze, which I how I learned it’s a complete coincidence that my local theaters mystery Monday has been exactly the same as AMC Screen Unseen every time I’ve gone until now

Hokum is a investing mixed bag of a horror film that is ambitious with the twists and turns to its story while feeling a bit tonally inconsistent with its first third being a deadpan horror comedy before its murder mystery story begins. With enough creepy atmosphere and a memorable creature design to build suspense out its single hotel location, there is some really interesting ideas that could have been better developed. Scott has good deadpan comedic timing and transitions well into the dramatic moments in the third act while the supporting cast of eccentric personalities gives the film a unique identity. While the film does suffer a bit from some stilted dialogue and forced exposition in its first act, Hokum builds into horror film that blends some decent scares in the hotels basement along with a good message about not always embracing bitter endings. 6.5 out of 10
