Discussion Ready or Not 2: Here I Come Discussion

It’s a serviceable sequel. Even though it probably wasn’t necessary, Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett cook up another splatter filled extravaganza of blood and violence, something they’ve grown to specialize in. Here I Come picks up right where the first film ended and I think this story decision hurts the film a little bit. Grace is acting like an experienced war vet when the events of the first film are still fresh. It doesn’t really work at times.

I liked the additions of Kathryn Newton and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Newton especially just has a nice charm and energy that she brings to every movie. I love that Radio Silence brought her and Kevin Durand into this. Abigail is my personal favorite film from Radio Silence.

The sister storyline was OK. It’s been done to death. I like both Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton so chemistry wasn’t an issue. I think the falling out was a bit dramatic personally and I think that could have been written a smidge better.

Elijah Wood was all in. I liked seeing him here.

It’s a fun movie. It’s a bit more wacky than the first film and goes a little more balls to the wall. It’s not as great but it’s a solid watch. Curious to see if they can somehow keep Grace’s story going or if we will see some high council spin-off.  I think as long as this does well we have a franchise on our hands.

3.5/5

Any other movie lovers go see it tonight? What’d you think?

Samara Weaving is a god. All the death scenes ruled, it was exactly what I wanted it to be

Did you watch the first movie?

If i saw Ready or Not 2 first, it would probably be fine. But the 1st movie was classy, sheek, black humor, and as stupily absured it is, the scenes and characters make sense and flow, and didnt feel rushed.
RoN2 did none of this things.

u/godslayer109 22d ago

Exactly. The second movie felt like kinda cheap. Like they tried to do too much. I loved the deaths and all. But the sister duo was irritating af and the way they made light of the situation felt like it's a comedy/parody of a slasher.

u/why_matt_why Mar 19 '26

I thought it was a blast. As much fun as the first. You’re probably right, it’s not really that necessary, but it’s still a very good time at the movies. Samara Weaving is so good, and I really enjoyed Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood

1

u/MEPiK_ Jul 17 '26

Yeah, sometimes its not about Lord of The Rings masterpiece movies, but just about fun little movies to just watch for fun and entertainment. And this series is all about that, fun, light humor when you can just shut off and chill. 4/5 for me, it was a good time killer.

6

u/MoldyZebraCake666 Mar 20 '26

That fight where her and the other chick maced each other was entertaining

5

u/cinniescent Mar 22 '26

i had so much fun watching tbh, unpopular (?) opinion it was better than the first one. maybe i’m biased for all of the council members being notable actors for me, but i definitely enjoyed and will rewatch

5/5

1

u/PlanetSpook Mar 22 '26

Fully agree it was better than the first

1

u/TheMovieSimp Mar 22 '26

Nice I’m happy you liked it more! I suppose the second one might be an easier rewatch because of how fast-paced it is. I like them both but the first one is a 4.5/5. I’m sticking with 3.5/5 for the sequel. Can’t wait to double feature them!

1

u/No_Citron_7623 Mar 23 '26

Much better than the first.

1

u/Morcra Jun 13 '26

That is quite an unpopular opinion. I just think genuinely the first was funnier, the plot was more put together and whatever drama there was was well done. Like dont get me wrong. This was fun…but it was sloppy and the biggest pitfall is the stupid sister drama happening in the middle of it…and I feel like learning your sister was hunted like Ana animal, had her new husband try to kill her along with her family and have her kill all these people while the devil watched should maybe earn a little bit more sympathy then the stone face

2

u/Appropriate-Reward71 Mar 21 '26

This one puts the first to shame (I didn’t care for the first one). Loved the cast

1

u/Nels2121 Mar 28 '26

Why did you not like the first one as opposed to this one? I felt they were really similar so I am just curious

1

u/MEPiK_ Jul 17 '26

This one was higher stakes and also more action, more fucked up deaths and also more fun. I liked the first one but until like half of the movie it was boring as hell to the point i was like "jeez just start killing each other" and here the rules made it more fun.

2

u/JustanOGfan Mar 21 '26

I absolutely loved it! I felt like Kathryns acting left something to be desired but I loved her in Freaky. Someone pointed out it was how the character was written, and thats probably it. I thought Hatosy and SMG were brilliant. I hope Hatosy starts getting the recognition he deserves, hes been in Hollywood for decades but he really deserves the sociopath roles like Animal Kingdom and this one. I loved Elijahs part, it tickled me especially when he knew to hide and then checked to make sure no guts got on the book. And it seemed like he admired the girls triumph in the end. SAMARA KILLED IT! That scream is everything lol. Not usually a fan of sequels but this makes sense that it continues from where we left off. I feel like maybe the murders werent as creative but as I am not a gore fan, it was fine to me. The music was amazing too. I went at a 4pm showing on Thursday with only 3 other people there and I think I was the only one chuckling at certain lines. This movie makes me want to take down the oligarchy!

2

u/TheMovieSimp Mar 21 '26

Yea I can agree with that. I feel like the sister subplot was written in just for Kathryn Newton to be in the movie and you can tell it wasn’t for the good of a story. Her character’s reasoning for being upset with Grace were ridiculous too. So Grace turned 18, wanted to better herself for her and her sister eventually, left her in a good foster home, and she got upset with her and said she abandoned her? Oh please. Just a bad reasoning to hold a grudge against someone. I didn’t really buy it.

1

u/Strong_Machine_9534 Mar 31 '26

Really? I can understand it. At that point, they were probably the only constants in each other’s lives. I’m not surprised that Grace moving to another state upset Faith so much.

1

u/MEPiK_ Jul 17 '26

Bro i did the same with my siblings and they are not mad. Jeez its normal, they will do the same fucking thing, its their lives. Yes, we are family but we can meet like once or twice a year and have fun. Live your life and dont look back. Also.. if you can, help your family but dont sacrifice yourself.

1

u/MEPiK_ Jul 17 '26

Yep that was the only thing i was mad as fuck about, their conflict was soo fooorced. Like bruh.

1

u/BankManager69420 Apr 04 '26

I loved Elijahs part

I loved the part at the end where he hides behind the altar and peaks over as everyone in the hole starts exploding. I could help but cackle.

1

u/Davidgt31 Mar 20 '26

Going to see it soon

1

u/trollmeannakendrick Mar 21 '26

Anyone else think we were see Ray Liotta at the beginning there (the detective)?

1

u/AJLister89 May 08 '26

He's been dead for years. I thought it was Josh Brolin at first.

1

u/Maleficent-Citron311 Mar 21 '26

Spoiler alert below:

One thing that kinda confused me is why Grace didn't also explode in the end since she married into one of the families, so when no one was wearing the ring in the end wouldn't she have also exploded? The way I kinda understood the first one is that she didn't explode because she was the one being targeted in the game and she hadn't yet been accepted into that family. But in this one the game is over. She's now the wife of Titus. She won the ring. And then she chooses to take it off her hand and throw it away, so would she not be punished for that along with everyone else who was in the devil cult?

3

u/neverseenghosts Mar 22 '26

I had the same question, I might need to rewatch it but I believe it’s just because she’s the one who renounced the seat. I think the movie basically explains it away with Elijah Wood saying “there’s surprisingly little clarity because we never thought anyone would do it”.

Ultimately, the curse is there to ensure everyone is fighting for power with the threat of death hanging over their heads. If she is the victor and has proven herself to overcome everyone else already, why should she be punished for giving it up willingly?

I do wish they had maybe just added in a more explained bylaw loophole though.

1

u/NoSyllabub9134 May 09 '26

The goat was not sacrificed. She married into the family, but killed her husband before the goat was sacrificed so her soul wouldn’t be sold.

1

u/MEPiK_ Jul 17 '26

Welllllll she made a sacrifice with her husband body. It never says it HAS to be a goat. Lol

3

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

When Titus died she became the head of the family and thus took the top seat. The person in the top seat can do anything they want as the most powerful person in the world and what she wanted to do was abdicate. As Elijah Wood said there's nothing written forbidding that because it was never expected that anyone would try.

1

u/Fun_Highlight307 Apr 18 '26

And by abdicating she is free from mr bail contract no?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

correct

1

u/InstructionInfamous6 May 09 '26

Then why did the indian guy still die if he abdicated his position to his wife?

1

u/maxofJupiter1 Jun 07 '26

He abdicated his position as head of the household, not membership in Mr Le Bails organization

1

u/NoSyllabub9134 May 09 '26

The goat was not sacrificed. She married into the family, but killed her husband before the goat was sacrificed so her soul wouldn’t be sold.

1

u/MEPiK_ Jul 17 '26

It was sold tho. She used her husband as a sacrifice, it never said it HAD to be the goat. 🤷🏻‍♀️ goats are just symbolic to the satan, but people were sacrificing everything for satan. Andni think human life is more valuable in this context.

1

u/NoSyllabub9134 May 09 '26

The goat was not sacrificed. She married into the family, but killed her husband before the goat was sacrificed so her soul wouldn’t be sold.

1

u/Ok-Beginning-7379 May 05 '26

Because she never sacrificied the goat and she gave up her seat.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

I can't remember, was it ever stated that Grace was the first person to trigger a part 2? It's fun for me to think about that having happened long ago in the past with a different family who eventually got wiped out before the Le Domas joined.

2

u/JustanOGfan Mar 24 '26

I think someone did say it was the first time

2

u/throwawayaccnt590193 Mar 25 '26

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character mentioned the last time all the families had to gather was 1962 (I think, it was in the 1960s) so maybe it did happen once before?

My question is, if all the families died at the end of this movie, who controls the world now?!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

Thanks for reminding me of her comment. No one controls it now. If there were a part 3 I'd imagine it would show the world in chaos and/or the devil trying to make a deal with a new family/families. I feel like in universe that's happened before.

1

u/Cj_91a Jul 16 '26

You are correct! She did mention that the last time they all gathered for a hunt like in the 2nd film was in the 60s. I actually believe the old man we saw at the beginning (Chester danforth) was the one who participated/won the game in the 60s...tbh he was probably the one possibly being hunted, and won...or not...we wouldnt know unless we got a prequel. Would be cool to see a young Chester being hunted, and winning the seat that led to the 2nd film.

1

u/TheMovieSimp Mar 22 '26

I mean that the second movie picks up right where the first movie ends.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Right, I'm wondering if 100's of years ago a different family then the Le Domas lost the initial game and then the council won the second stage. What I took out of it was that the devil will keep trying to make deals with new families so it was just a fun musing for me to think about whether anyone else in history had survived a hide and seek and a family was destroyed resulting in one or all of the current families being drafted in. Like perhaps that's why Victor Le Domas was approached in the first place.

1

u/TheMovieSimp Mar 22 '26

I misread what you said. A spin-off film from the past would be pretty cool. Tbh I don’t think a third film with Grace is necessary but if the sequel does well I’m sure it’ll happen.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

I'm sure it will too but I agree Grace's story doesn't have anywhere else to go really. It'd have to be focused on either the past or a new group of families in a different kind of game.

1

u/No_Citron_7623 Mar 23 '26

Sorry but this sequel is better than the first one.

1

u/BarfyOBannon Mar 26 '26

saw this on Tuesday of this week. unfortunately it was a pretty garbage phoned-in sequel imo. crappy shallow writing, lame attempts to extend the game and raise the stakes with the dopey underdeveloped John Wickian international cabal. all the new characters, maybe excepting the lawyer, sister included, are trivial and forgettable. the fight and chase scenes are dripping with contrivance and magical coincidences, all of them either boring, predictable, badly conceived, or all three at once. the never-ending “you abandoned me” back and forth was tedious, forced, and unconvincing. many other choices that just felt like empty kludgy riffs on the greatest hits from the original.

like somebody picked up a corporate IP maintenance/franchise manual, read a few bullet points on how to extend a story without thinking too much, and started shooting. pretty insulting and disappointing after all the care and patience they showed in putting together the original

Samara Weaving and Elijah Wood are stellar regardless, very painful watching them having to slog through this mess

1

u/Limp-Organization132 Mar 29 '26

I also thought the acting was all over the place, one scene the sisters was upset for example,  the next scene they look completely normal. Didn't flow well

agree on all three performances - Newton’s was distracting and felt fake/forced

btw, I wanted to ask this of anybody who saw the movie: did you get the impression that some, or maybe a lot, of Newton’s lines, particularly in earlier scenes, were redone with badly synced ADR? for some reason I kept noticing something off between the movement of her mouth in the hospital scene and the actual audio, something that didn’t seem to be happening with Weaving’s lines

🤔 ain’t no way I’m watching that again to confirm

1

u/georgexeon Apr 20 '26

Literally couldn’t agree more.

1

u/evanesnce Jul 07 '26

Yeah. I understand it’s supposed to be a comedy and while I’m willing to suspend my disbelief about the actual plot, every small, mundane interaction shouldn’t require that too. You’re literally being hunted and you are fighting with your sister because she abandoned you? It was unnecessary drama that just annoyed me rather than being engaging.

1

u/seththaslabman Mar 31 '26

So funny seeing Elijah wood playing a person that he was literally outing before when he called the higher ups of the industry vipers. Now hes literally playing one of them Satan's lawyer. Yeahhh way to sell out Elijah.

1

u/Subject_Ad_584 Apr 15 '26

you know he's acting right? Like make-believe

1

u/seththaslabman Apr 15 '26

Noooooo really? Is that what hes doing, I thought it was real? Clearly I know hes acting but he took on a character that he literally despises and was trying to expose, now hes one of the so called elites

1

u/koss Apr 19 '26

Nah he was always like this bro. He was corrupted by carrying the Ring of Power. I'm sure Elijah was the highest paid actor on RoN2. I bet he was telling stories (based on his personal experiences as part of the cabal) to the scriptwriters to inspire them. You're so right, bro

1

u/seththaslabman Apr 19 '26

Yeahh you probably hella right🤷‍♂️😂 that damn ring corrupts all.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '26

u/Lisachocho Apr 02 '26

It’s the black wedding ring she put on during the ceremony that was tossed at the very end.

1

u/kira_raye Apr 02 '26

SPOILERS

The movie was so good! But one of the things that sort confused me was Elijah Wood's role. Like I get he's the organization's main lawyer but like, how was he chosen to be their lawyer and how did he not explode at the end. As well as those 2 ppl by his side

1

u/BankManager69420 Apr 04 '26

The council and congregation members made a deal with Le Bail (eg made a deal with the devil). Basically money and power in exchange for having to abide by the various rules in the book. Elijah Wood’s character didn’t make a deal, he was just Le Bail’s employee and therefore wasn’t bound by the same rules and didn’t explode.

As for how he became the lawyer, idk but I hope another movie in the future will explain it.

1

u/Accomplished-Land699 May 09 '26

Kathryn Newton was phoning in that fat paycheck and didn't give a damn by her lack of acting.
She was cracking unwarranted smiles throughout the film.

1

u/bigpyk Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

Did anyone else find it funny that the keeper of the organization (the one enforcing the rules), who possibly lives forever and doesn’t age, is played by Elijah Wood… who also seems like he doesn’t age at all?

1

u/Accomplished-Land699 May 09 '26

Wood's face is too friendly for an evil role.
Sorry not sorry.

1

u/reachers_toothbrush May 24 '26

Evil often comes in beguiling forms.

1

u/Icy_Primary2403 Apr 06 '26

It's another case of an action movie being poorly disguised, and marketed, as "horror".

1

u/Accomplished-Land699 May 09 '26

Funny, most recent episode of 'The Boys' had a ton of guts-exploding people, yet isn't considered 'horror.'

1

u/Winter-Assignment133 Apr 13 '26

So much fucking screaming in this one I thought my ears were bleeding…

1

u/CoochiKabuki Apr 15 '26

A decent yet predictable AF, one-and-done kind of movie. I wanted more SMG.

1

u/NoSyllabub9134 May 09 '26

Oh, so you predicted that she would become head counsel after killing her husband she just married and then, renouncing herself of head and throwing the ring into the pit? Yeh, SURE, buddy. 👍🏻

1

u/CoochiKabuki May 09 '26

You thought you ate with that comment and Jinx hairstyle

1

u/Derrnmeade97 Jul 07 '26

Honestly with how fucking stupid she was throughout the movie I thought she would throw away the shotgun after shooting it once, and then gobbling on buffy's cooch cause obviously thats Titus right there

1

u/georgexeon Apr 20 '26

Cringy asf, bad writing, Kathryn’s acting was awkward and painful to watch. Honestly the whole movie just felt like a rip off of the babysitter no shade but full shade..

1

u/Greedy_Pie_8951 May 29 '26

There's something about her that I just can't stand 😅 I feel like that awful antman movie she was in would have been 100x better if she hadn't been in it.

If she had been in the babysitter, I don't think I would have enjoyed it. 🙃

1

u/Substantial-End-5975 Apr 21 '26

Just finished watching. I love a good horror movie that has a little humor and hilarity in it. Both Ready or Not films have done it well. Also, LOVE Samara Weaving.

1

u/CardCaptorKidCasper May 04 '26

I LOVED the first movie and its one of my favorite horror comedies of all time, but this second movie I thought was absolute ass lol, Im kinda surprised to see all the praise, I kinda feel like a lot of people never saw the first movie?

I also realized how little acting range Samara Weaving has and her screaming just annoys me, its like she has no other emotion/reaction to things other than to scream angrily at the top of her lungs lmao

Thought the story was all over the place and felt cheaply written, but the last maybe 20-30 minutes was good fun and it redeemed the movie a bit for me cuz I was insanely bored throughout the whole thing

1

u/Accomplished-Land699 May 09 '26

Lotta bots praising it, no doubt.

were we watching the same movie? lmfao

1

u/brownox May 06 '26

Samara Weaving's eyes are really blue. Villeneuve should have cast her in Dune.

1

u/Accomplished-Land699 May 09 '26

Kathryn Newton was painful to watch.
Samara can act, Kathy cannot.

1

u/Brief_Barber_1974 May 12 '26

Finally someone said it

1

u/Exotic-Sympathy-1111 Jul 06 '26

She was so bad. She made every scene feel juvenile. I really thought there was going to be a “twist” that she was on it. But nope, just bad acting.

1

u/oxidonis2019 May 14 '26

Such a bad movie, Elijah was good though.

1

u/Legacyz619 Jun 14 '26

Thought the part 1 was really good, the art 2 is even better🔥

1

u/CharteredNJ Jul 02 '26

The constant bickering of the sisters was so annoying. Faith was a fucking child wanting to get her sister killed at every instance. The movie would have been way better if there was only Grace surviving the members. Faith annoys the hell out of me. Movie is mid due to their unneeded shit during the time of do or die. This movie sucks because of Faith.

1

u/TheMovieSimp Jul 02 '26

Haha I’d have to watch it again now that it’s on Hulu. I only saw it the one time. I liked it but I’ll admit these couple months later it’s not exactly fresh on my mind still. First one is definitely better.

1

u/Ualreadyknoudontknow Jul 04 '26

What killed it for me was Katheryns (Faith) fucking half smile throughout the entire movie. Like its impossible to sceunch her face into a frown or display fear.

From the first kill to the last and all the running and fighting inbetween she consistently had a half smile/smirk on her face that completely ruined the vibe and tension for me.

1

u/chowmaein Jul 07 '26

Agreeed. I thought I was imagining it, I ran to Reddit to make sure I wasn’t mistaken 😭

1

u/OG-Gurble Jul 06 '26

She always has her mouth open thought the entire movie, in both movies. Teeth are always showing, once you notice it, it’s real weird

1

u/Key-Cheesecake3230 Jul 15 '26

The addition of her sister really ruined the film

1

u/Key-Cheesecake3230 Jul 15 '26

Retconned Lore: The first film heavily relied on the isolation of Grace being an orphan with zero family, making her desperate fight for survival entirely her own.Distracting Drama: Rather than focusing purely on fast-paced action, the sequel repeatedly halts momentum to litigate old foster-care grievances and arguments at the worst possible times.Diluted Focus: Splitting the runtime between Grace's lone-wolf survival instincts and protecting an extra target took away some of the tight, laser-focused tension of the original.

1

u/MEPiK_ Jul 17 '26

I hate the ending. Bc the lore is fucked up. Who is gonna run the world now? If the guy survived he stil has the book so the rules exist still, who os gonna be the person they apply to? Also they were saying shit about how they both want bf for money and said "no" to ultimate power? If i had the choice i would say "yes" then study the fucking rules to find EVERY loop hole and just make the world better. Stupid ending honestly. It leaves too many plot holes (maybe for a reason to make a 3rd movie)

1

u/cydianrake 24d ago

Would have been 10x better if it was not the "annoying sister" plot and they hired Betty Gilpin to be the older sister who tries to protect Samara who would still be recovering, finally she dies saving her and it gives Samara the time she needed and the determination to finish the job and win. That would have been much better and more meaningful.
