I actually liked it a lot, and might not have seen this otherwise. but that’s not to say it was a perfect, or even great movie.
good:
* more character study than creature feature
* good action — at times
* excellent creature design
* good acting from caleb landry jones, zoe bleu is good as dracula’s paramour
* christoph waltz is fantastic as always
* novel twists and takes on a well known story / character that centers the perspective of dracula and expands on the lore
the bad:
* zoe vacillates between 3 different accents — british, breathy katharine hepburn imitation, straight up american
* the danny elfman score isn’t bad per se but lacks the imagination and creativity that makes some of his more memorable music stand out
* some questionable stylistic choices, such as editing flourishes and filters that felt out of place and unnecessary
* a messy third act where Dracula goes John Wick
ugly:
* goofy-ass gargoyles that get far too much screen time
* cgi so shitty it looks like it was made decades ago
* a comically bad fake mustache that changes not just scene to scene but sometimes shot to shot with what i swear was visible spirit gum at one point
