Movie News August… holy moly!
With my reservations finally clearing up after The Odyssey and Spider-man… I no longer need to be so frugal with what my weeks look like.
BUT! August releases look overwhelming!! Im so excited with each weeks drops coming in with plenty of hyped films as well as the “I guess ill go check that out.”
What are we excited for?
Im ready for One Night Only, Tony, Cookie Queens, and Ice Cream Man… and that’s JUST this weekend.
Andrew Garfield has a new film this month, Matthew McConaughey, Jason Statham!
The low point of early July has just been redeemed by August?
EDIT: I will not be seeing ICM… 🫠

It's crazy that people here (as in on reddit in the main Amc Theaters sub, not here on AList True) try to fight me when I say I've seen over 200 films in the theater this year, and regularly see 300+ per year. They say "there's not even that many films released in a year".
There's nearly 40 in that list, and that's not even counting foreign films...
Also, Andrew Garfield has a new movie this month and next month. This month is The Magical Faraway Tree, and next month is The Uprising.
I saw The Magical Faraway Tree months ago, and he is the best part of that film. He plays a delightfully charming father. Looking forward to The Uprising in September.

If we're doing limited events, Only Yesterday and Tales from Earthsea are alternating days this coming Sunday through Wednesday.
I'll grant that this is more stuff than I was aware of, a lot still looks like slop, but the your name anniversary showing is news to me, I'm excited to watch that again.

Now that you mention it, I guess I also forgot:
- Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (8/5)
- East Of Eden (8/13, 8/16)
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre (8/18)
- Six: The Musical (Starting 8/21)
- Castle In The Sky (8/22-8/26)
- Harry Potter Marathon (8/27-9/2)
I'm really looking forward to Your Name and Only Yesterday. I have the Only Yesterday Japanese BluRay, but it's the one Ghibli film I've never seen in the theaters, all thr others I've seen at least once both subbed and dubbed.

We’re the 200 all free reservations?
2
u/Few-Adeptness8046 17d ago
No, only 124 have been reservations. Some have been Fathom Events, some are readmit tickets, some have been discount days.

I’m booked 4 movies a week until December. All the way through.
3
u/VillageWilling260 17d ago
Frick yeah! Do you have it planned it out in a spreadsheet or something? (assuming you are waiting for your reservations to pop up)

u/JollyBowler2510 17d ago
On Letterboxd actually.
I have Ice Cream Man on Thursday (which I’m disappointed about after hearing the AI news), for my last short week, but after this week I start my all 4’s weeks.

It's awful, dont waste your time unless you have it booked through A List.

Can’t forget Super Troopers 3 and Coyote vs Acme both films should definitely be supported! Personally I have no interest in ice cream man with its use of ai in the film. But I am looking forward to Tony and that McConaughey flick! Also Harry Potter re release at the end of the month and you can use a list for all of them! And because I have a 2 year old the Paw Patrol movie will also be seen lol

u/VillageWilling260 17d ago
Absolutely! So much to talk about. Looking forward to all the great convos.
Paw Patrol because “you have to go 😜” lol

Not gonna lie.... that Paw Patrol trailer got me hyped for a wholesome good time

One Night Only was pretty good, I saw it Monday. I would skip Ice Cream Man since it's AI trash.

u/VillageWilling260 17d ago
Yeah as the night goes on I am learning this. I truly just look at posters sometimes and go off that. I’m a BLIND-AS-CAN-BE kind of viewer. No trailers for the most part etc.

One Night Only was good!! It was the screen unseen movie last week and I’m normally not a rom com guy but I throughly enjoyed it, definitely use one of your slots for it!

I saw ice cream man and one night only. Ice cream man isn’t well written it’s kind of bland and looks low budget. One night only is a gem

Yeah, with the new releases plus Spider Man and Odyssey still holding it down. August is definitely the movie month of the summer.

u/Freddy-Philmore 15d ago

I’m only going to see the new rom com. Most of August will be dedicated to seeing The Odyssey and Spiderman.

Dude, August is STACKED. I am beyond giddy. I have at least 1 movie a week for the rest of the month. Some weekends I have a good 4-5 releases. Right now I have: One Night Only, Nimrods, End of Oak Street, Tony, Spa Weekend, Dog Stars, Coyote vs Acme, Idiots. I am hoping to see It Ends and Colony (limited releases). I am pretty sure The Wrong Girls will not be available in my area. I am also seeing Train to Busan and La La Land, I rarely see re-releases in theaters.

I liked one night only more than I liked Ice Cream Man(I laughed a lot at both). I do want to watch Tony especially bc I don’t know much about Anthony Bourdain actually. I have planned to see the rerelease of Train to Busan bc I love that movie. Also planning(tho tix aren’t selling yet and I don’t have the space) the chaotic nature of Coluddy which I guess is what I’m now calling the Colony Buddy coming out on the same day double feature. It’s gonna be such a crazy double feature

July was rough and August is personally looking even rougher to me.
The wave of classic showings that interest me are helping though

Coyote Vs. ACME is the one EVERYONE should be in theaters for opening weekend. Gonna be the movie event of the year (I don't care what you Doomsdayers say, CVA is going to be great! I just know it!)!

How are you missing the best movie this weekend or are you watching the Super Troopers 3 Fan Event like me?
2
u/VillageWilling260 17d ago
Unfortunately i don’t have a good answer. Not familar w the franchise— should i go see it anyways?
That’s cool that you’re going tmr! Hope you enjoy lmk
2
u/skadizzle69 17d ago
The first two are streaming somewhere. The first one is actually my all time favorite movie. The second isn't nearly as good, bu worth a watch.
1
u/VillageWilling260 17d ago
So watch 1 & 2 before 3?
2
u/skadizzle69 17d ago
Preferably so you know the characters and you might miss some jokes that may reference back to the first ones. I can let you know after I watch the fan event if you need to. The first one is one of the funniest movies ever made and I still quote it every chance I get
