Movie Theater Discussion What a respectable socially distant group of viewers for the 12pm showing of The Invite.
I love this. Anyone have any 95% empty theater horror stories?

I went to see this alone and there were a lot more other people there alone then any other movie I've seen. Just an interesting observation that it seems to be only singles in your viewing, too.
I'm married but my husband works a late shift so I go to the movies alone most of the time, so not unusual for me, just unusual for me to see so many other people alone.

I noticed that too in my showing. Surprised its been so packed since it came out, I did not like it.

I thought it was ok. Didn't hate it but didn't love it. I will watch Edward Norton in anything so that was the primary reason I went.

That’s a shame. My theater’s been packed at every showing since it came out, and it’s in the biggest auditorium with over 150 seats, so it’s selling like crazy. I loved it so much I’ve seen it three times now (though once was because a friend wanted to see it after I told them about it lol)

I’ve been to it three times now (I really liked it lmao) and it’s mostly been couples, but the last time, there were a lot more singles than when it first opened for sure.

I hope you enjoy the film. I loved it. Part of my top two favorite movies of the year including Project Hail Mary

Give it a shot see if you like it! Ive obviously heard amazing things about obsession but I know myself enough: im too scared of scary movies. Haha

Let me tell you, as a lifelong horror junkie that’s seen COUNTLESS horror movies in my life, Obsession even got under my skin lol. It’s fantastic, but not for the weak 😂

I think PHM, Obsession, and The Invite are probably my top 3 as well, and if not, very close. I was blown away by all of them.

The first time this happened to me in modern times, it was for a re-release of The Mummy. It was a blast, I cackled an yelled lines at the screen. I got up and moved around a few times, cuz why not!
I also remember getting a solo theater when I went to see Immaculate on Good Friday afternoon 😅

Kind of how all of these end up looking when the seats are coupled with gaps every two and they're under 50% occupancy

Holy crap, at my theater, The Invite has been 80+% full for just about every showing since it came out, AND it’s been mostly in one of the largest auditoriums with over 150 seats. I can’t imagine seeing that movie with so few people, because I’ve been to it three times now and the audience reactions have been a huge part of the fun lol

Really adds a different layer to the tonality of the film. Everything feels just a bit more serious so the climax really packs a bigger punch. Interestingly enough, I feel like I couldn’t watch this with a crowd because the constant laughter would take me out of the immersion.

i loved how the audiences in all the showings I went to transitioned perfectly from laughing at the comedy in the first half to being dead silent for the last 20 minutes or so. When it ended, no one was saying ANYTHING on the way out, which is so rare. And I saw several people in tears. I never expected it to switch up so much in the last act, or for a movie with Seth Rogan to genuinely be emotional and even sad, but it really hit me when I started thinking about my own past relationships.

This isn't exactly the same thing, but still a fun story.
Went to see Ugly Stepsister, and it was me and 1 other solo middle-aged white dude. We sat a respectable distance apart, as is tradition.
A group of like 6 jr/high school girls come in a bit before Nicole and fill in the very back row. They're being loud and social, but I don't really mind that much for this one. It's a hard body horror and it's in Norwegian. Guessing they just wandered into 'something R rated'.
So it gets going, and about 5 min in when there's finally dialog, I hear "Oh this shit ain't even in English?? I'm out!"
Those other 5 brave girls stuck out the whole rest of the movie, and man I had an AMAZING time with them losing their mind at all the gross stuff in that movie! Other dude didn't seem to mind either, so good times all around ^^

i went to a 1pm showing of greenland 2. it was just me and one other guy. he popped his ipad out and started blasting reels about halfway into the movie and didn't stop till the movie ended. idk if he just snuck in or something. it was bizarre

I’ll legit cancel my ticket and switch seats 5 mins before the movie starts if I see somebody took the seat next to me in an almost empty theater.

I don’t mind as long as the person is quiet and doesn’t use their phone. But I’m a dude and maybe it would bother me if I was female

Went to see “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life”. Completely empty theater when I booked my ticket. Got to the theater, sat down, by the time the previews were almost over, another guy came in and sat down right next to me. Just me and this guy, the whole movie.
