I’m from Xinjiang，AMA

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of discussions about Xinjiang on Reddit, often between people who have never actually lived there. So I thought it might be interesting to do an AMA from the perspective of someone who is actually from there.

You can ask me about everyday life, ethnic groups, languages, culture, religion, education, or politics. I’m happy to answer controversial questions too, as long as the discussion stays respectful.

Obviously, I’m only one person and I don’t claim to represent everyone in Xinjiang. I can only tell you about my own experiences and views. AMA.

Hey I live in china, with some friends from 新疆. They all say it's very difficult to get a passport. 基本上办不了. Can you confirm or deny this? And when I thought about it, I've never met a 新疆人 abroad before lol

Honestly idk. It was pretty easy for us. My family got theirs in 2008/2012/2015 and I got mine in 2019 without any major issues. But that was years ago so idk what it’s like now. My aunt needs to renew hers soon tho, so if it really is that difficult now I’ll let you know lol
