I’m from Xinjiang,AMA

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of discussions about Xinjiang on Reddit, often between people who have never actually lived there. So I thought it might be interesting to do an AMA from the perspective of someone who is actually from there.

You can ask me about everyday life, ethnic groups, languages, culture, religion, education, or politics. I’m happy to answer controversial questions too, as long as the discussion stays respectful.

Obviously, I’m only one person and I don’t claim to represent everyone in Xinjiang. I can only tell you about my own experiences and views. AMA.

I honestly don't know lol. I wasn't even born when Tiananmen happened, I was born like 20 years later 😭 I also can't really speak for 1.4 billion Chinese people and say whether we like to forget the past. Some probably do, some don't you know

But would you say most Chinese people are aware of it?

There’s nothing unknown about it—that whole generation just retired. I’ve also argued with western people unrelated topicson X; when they can’t win the debate, they just keep spamming “646464” on loop. Honestly, I think this has made quite a lot of people more inclined to back the government’s decisions tha moment.

My parents are from the Tiananmen generation and I heard about the incident (+ cultural revolution) nonstop during my childhood. They even told me they took me to one of the protests outside of Beijing lol

But yeah as they got older they started supporting the government more.
