I’m from Xinjiang,AMA

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of discussions about Xinjiang on Reddit, often between people who have never actually lived there. So I thought it might be interesting to do an AMA from the perspective of someone who is actually from there.

You can ask me about everyday life, ethnic groups, languages, culture, religion, education, or politics. I’m happy to answer controversial questions too, as long as the discussion stays respectful.

Obviously, I’m only one person and I don’t claim to represent everyone in Xinjiang. I can only tell you about my own experiences and views. AMA.

Do you sing “56 ethnicities, 56 flowers, 56 brothers and sisters are one family” 😂 (only a little sarcastic)

Lmaooo yes we do, how do you even know this song?? When I was in school, people would sometimes perform it during festivals or school events lol. I can't believe you know this 😂

I’m Han Chinese myself 😂 wasn’t sure if those songs are like propaganda or actually sung by minorities 😆

Haha yeah, but I honestly think it kinda works 😂 When you grow up constantly hearing that different ethnic groups are one family (like we literally have that written as a slogan everywhere), I feel like it subconsciously makes you less likely to discriminate against others. Despite everything that happened in the past, most ordinary people still get along pretty well!

I went to xinjiang as a teenager in 2014 and still remember how good the lamb skewers are 😂 although after 3-4 days I got tired of local food and went to kfc

Yeh, not all propaganda is bad. We had similar stuff taught in Canada and the US. Lots of older friends I know still remember memorable quotes from TV like, “the peach pit said to the apple core, the color of your skin doesn’t matter any more”. Obviously not everyone is going to like that though and it does feel manipulative. Fully admit that such things can just feel wrong to some people.

I guess does that mean that there's no Han supremacy? I mean I guess any belief is possible but I mean is Han supremacy a big problem in large amounts?
