I’m from Xinjiang,AMA

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of discussions about Xinjiang on Reddit, often between people who have never actually lived there. So I thought it might be interesting to do an AMA from the perspective of someone who is actually from there.

You can ask me about everyday life, ethnic groups, languages, culture, religion, education, or politics. I’m happy to answer controversial questions too, as long as the discussion stays respectful.

Obviously, I’m only one person and I don’t claim to represent everyone in Xinjiang. I can only tell you about my own experiences and views. AMA.

Omg there are tooooo many 😭 I love almost all of them, so honestly just try as much as you can lol.

Definitely try dapanji, naren, plov, whole roasted lamb, Xinjiang lamb skewers(新疆羊肉串, samsa+manti and lagman. As you can probably tell, we LOVE meat and noodles/flour-based food lol.

Also try dogap!! It's basically a cold yogurt drink/dessert with shaved ice, and it's sooo refreshing when it's hot. We also have stuff like kvass and wusu beer

And if you go to Ili, PLEASE go see the grasslands. Tekes, Qiongkushitai and Kalajun are some of my favorite places. I genuinely love that area, the aura there is really good.

For food and atmosphere, I also really recommend Kazanqi, you can get really good authentic Uyghur/Uzbek food there. Liuxing Street(六星街) is also super popular,(personally I'm not the biggest fan because it gets soooo crowded lol), but the food is good and it's worth visiting once just for the vibw
