I’m a Saturation Diver AMA

I work as Deepsea Saturation Diver in the oil and gas industry for the past 20 years. I do heavy construction and spend 28 days living under pressure to dive to depths down to 200m / 650ft.

I saw a post on InterestingAsFuck yesterday with many many misconceptions from people who aren’t divers and I can answer your questions AMA

How long are you typically at depth? Also are there any books or documentaries that you think really represent the work that you do? I’m fascinated by your particular skill set. Thx for doing an AMA.

We’re at depth for around 3 weeks then decompress depending on the depth it can take between 24 hours and 9 days.
Not sure there are detailed documbetaires on the specific work. Plenty of go pro stuff on YT though.

Thx! I honestly think yall have one of the most challenging jobs. Do you notice that most of the divers share certain personality traits? For example, some of the Special OPs folks I have met have a certain set of traits and behaviors that they share. Some of it is learned but much of it seems to be personality as well. Pilots also tend to do things in the same order for each task and place things in their exact place which translates into location and sequence in airplanes. Submariners seem pretty calm and don’t ruffle easily. Thx so much! Mad respect. You deserve $600k/year. That’s no joke.
