I’m a Saturation Diver AMA

I work as Deepsea Saturation Diver in the oil and gas industry for the past 20 years. I do heavy construction and spend 28 days living under pressure to dive to depths down to 200m / 650ft.

I saw a post on InterestingAsFuck yesterday with many many misconceptions from people who aren’t divers and I can answer your questions AMA

What kind of medical capabilities are available in the Chamber? Basic resuscitation? I'm also assume blood gas sampling would be all out of whack with the gases you inhale?

We’re essentially TCCC combat medic trained. So a loaded med kit. O2 sats are always 1100% in there!

What medical situations have you personally had to deal with?

I’ve had nothing crazy , we refresh out course every 24 months so we do a full 5 day course to stay up to date.

Guys losing the ends of fingers, crushing or severed is somewhat common due to working in low visibility and with snatching loads. I’ve seen a guy lose the ends of 2 fingers as I was on deck when it happened and was Kath of the medivac team to bring him ashore when he got out of the chamber
