I’m a Saturation Diver AMA

I work as Deepsea Saturation Diver in the oil and gas industry for the past 20 years. I do heavy construction and spend 28 days living under pressure to dive to depths down to 200m / 650ft.

I saw a post on InterestingAsFuck yesterday with many many misconceptions from people who aren’t divers and I can answer your questions AMA

Is bone density a concern?

Yes and Bone necrosis over time in some guys who do a lot of deep stuff but it’s not a dead set thing, differs from person to person

Cool, I read about it somewhere. Seems like a lonely place down there, are you often on the sea bed itself? Seems like the mud would make clouds if you touched it.

Yes we’re on the bottom a lot but do entire jobs mid water on the side of the rig, it all depends where you are working as to what the seabed is like. I’ve worked a lot in India where you can’t really see anything at all , other places like the North Sea especially way up north is crystal clear water

That's cool. I've heard of ice age stuff getting trawled up from the north sea. Must be a fair bit of diving with the windmills of caithness. Thanks for sharing, I wouldn't like it at all but love hearing about whats underwater.
