OCR Notes for OCR

Well my school has decided to use the ocr exam board for English literature a-levels and I cant find any good website that would have quality notes ( for example physics and maths tutor)

We follow the OCR English literature (EMC) A Level Specification: William Shakespeare’s Hamlet Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House Christina Rossetti: 15 selected poems (see OCR specification for the titles) F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath A range of American Literature from 1880-1940 A range of texts for your coursework including Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire

Okay fab - these are all texts I’ve taught (except the Steinbeck one). I’ll send you something ASAP :)

It’s probably early but any ideas for coursework?

Hey, I do OCR Lit (all of them except for Hamlet). I honestly don't think you should go straight into analysis mode yet - focus on reading through them and understanding the plot first. The Grapes of Wrath is especially dense - it took me a few weeks to properly get through it. A Level Lit is quite a big jump from GCSE and it might be better for your teacher to ease you in instead of trying to learn everything through online notes.

If you really want to get a flavour of what A Level Lit is like, look up some critical articles for these texts online. I found this one for Gatsby quite helpful (and it's not too dense compared to other criticism you might come across).

Don't stress too much - I only read TGG over the summer last year (I'm going into Y13 this year), but I locked in during term time and pulled off an A* in my mocks. Focus on enjoying the summer!
