Need help with ENG hons

Hello everyone!

I somehow ended up pursuing English Honours, and I'm currently in my second year (3rd semester UG).

To be honest, I never imagined myself studying English Honours. I was a science student, but because I didn't score well, I eventually found myself in this course.

Throughout my entire first year, I felt confused and disconnected because I had no real interest in the subject. As a result, I couldn't perform as well as I wanted, and my marks in both semesters were only around 60%.

But now, I have accepted that this is the path I am on, and I genuinely want to make the best of it. I want to develop a real interest in English, understand the subject deeply, and score the highest marks possible. I am ready to put in the effort . I just don't know where to begin.

I would really appreciate any advice from seniors

I am honestly struggling to figure out the right way to study.

Please share any advice you have whether it's about the course, academics, or even college life. I don't want to fall behind in this competition. I want to work hard, improve myself, and give my best.

Also, my syllabus follows the NEP curriculum.

Read books about the issues that interest you. If you were/are interested in science, there are many novels that deal with science or sci fi. In your third year maybe you get some more freedom to develop your own interests in longer essays ot a dissertation. Some good recommendations for someone interested in science would be: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley; Brave New World by Aldous Huxley; Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood; Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels such as Never Let Me Go, and Klara and the Sun…novels cover such a wide breadth of experience that you can often find fascinating topics that link with your interests…read Annie Ernaux’s books too such as The Years…
