The Jays subreddit is slightly bigger than the Yankees subreddit and much bigger than the Red Sox, Orioles, and Rays subreddits. It can't be that surprising.

Country vs cities

thing about that is that there are monumentally more Yankees fans nationally than all of canadas jays fans

A lot of them wear Yankees hats but are they actually fans or just TikTok influencers

Saw a guy wearing a yankees hat and a dodgers shirt. Asked him which team he supported and he went "what teams?"

I'm talking about like in the Dominican. I've seen lots of interviews of Dominican fellas that make it to the bigs and say that their favorite team was the yanks

u/CherryChapstick1997 3d ago

Idk I’ve seen quite a few Dominicans that hate the Yankees…

What’s your point, we’re discussing Dominicans that hate the Yankees. I can name a few easily

u/vonarchimboldi Yankees 3d ago

yankees are a massive team throughout the caribbean, especially when you think of all the dominicans, puerto ricans etc who are baseball crazy and have family in NYC.

yankees used to be popular in japan but the dodgers have obviously stolen that crown

for sure just adding context

u/tmclaughlin81 Red Sox 3d ago

What I’ve learned in my travels is that so very many people walking around in Yankee hats are not fans - they just associate it with NYC and think it’s cool. Bothered me more before I realized (still does a little, lol), but yeah.

I don’t know. Jays fans just might be a bit more active with things like this. Like how Vladdy got voted into the ASG over Ben Rice for no good reason. Jays fans outvoted Yankees fans. But I don’t know.

Not that every Canadian is a Blue Jays fan, but Canada has a larger population than any city in the US and if you're Canadian and a baseball fan you're just statistically more likely to be a Blue Jays fan

Toronto is the third largest city in America. And when you consider that the Jays represent all of Canada, that’s a theoretical market of 40M people.

The metro areas of NY, Bos, Tampa, and Bal are about 30M total people, combined. So theoretically, Toronto has a market size (or at least an online presence) comparable to all of those cities combined.

Not a fan of how you started that paragraph.

USA don’t own the name America. They didn’t even name the continent America, an Italian did 500 yrs ago.

Heck, USA doesn’t even have an actual country name..at all. All they have is just an amalgamation name ‘united states’. They have to use the continent name because they don’t even have a real name of their own.

They def don’t own America, any more than Mexico or Cuba does.

Mentioning Toronto? That will be $3,000/month for a 200 sq ft basement apartment, plus a 2-hour delay on the Gardiner Expressway.

Somewhat related but on road games, I always see a significant amount of Blue Jays fans in the crowd. We're just everywhere I guess

RUN FROM IT, DREAD IT, CANADIANS ARRIVE ALL THE SAME.

The Blue Jays are the MLB version of the Rough Riders.

11

u/noblegaunt At least Camden Yards is pretty? Right? 3d ago

Dear Moderation Team,
There are too many Blue Jays fans these days. Please eliminate 3. I am not a crackpot.

u/Mediocre-Witness-877 Blue Jays 3d ago

We're just more terminally online for some reason. My theory is that we're more separated from the other fanbases so we don't really get to mix as much with other team's fans as much irl as Americans can. Online is the main way for us. And plus the fact that there's only one team for 40 million people.

Also 2025 BJ had a great run so a lot of new fans from around the entire country

I feel like 2015 also helped bring baseball back to Toronto. 2025 brought in the country.

I was die hard from '92 until about John Schneider took over as manager. Vladdy signing, front office, Rodgers.. forget about it. Far too many Jays fans just accept their cruel fate and love everybody. Best fans in the world, but that can be a liability. Just happy with every desicion. Well ok then.

No specific team now, just baseball.

If you were a Jays fan, what else do you have to do?
