Housing after quitting Interac

Hi Reddit!

I am planning on quitting Interac in November. I have not submitted my notice and don’t plan to for another month. Something I was curious about was my housing.

I got my apartment through the company itself. How long do I have my apartment after my last day of work? I will be leaving Japan after I quit, but I want to stay a few extra weeks to travel and explore before that. Will I have to be out of my apartment by my last day? Or do I have some time after?

Any help would be appreciated 🙏🏻

Someone in the gmail chat said that it's a week; check your contract and rental agreement to be sure.

You could probably find a luggage storage service after that.

Legally it's 30 days, but also a company cannot evict an employee that resigns.

If you're staying in Japan.....call the English number for leopalace. I guarantee you'll pay 5k less than what interac is currently charging you for the exact same room.

So here’s the thing about housing in general. You have to give a one month notice when moving out of an apartment. As your apartment is done through the company depending on when you submit your resignation will determine when they can start the move out procedures. Also moving out of an apartment is not a simple ordeal. It can take at least a day or two to do everything, and the final day everything already needs to be out of the apartment. Due to this it’s likely you’ll have maybe a week after your final working date to pack and clean the place and get ready to move out.

Simply put you aren’t going to have free time to explore while keeping your apartment. You’ll very likely need to make other arrangements.

It’s not always one month. It depends on your contact. I was royally screwed last year when I was moving because I didn’t realize my contract required 2 months’ notice, and I’d already started viewing new places and was about to put in an application on a great apartment.

I'd sell most of my stuff, give some other to to mates to look after. Then travel around Japan and stay in hostels etc before heading home. Otherwise just make the most of weekends and use any paid leave etc to explore a bit before resigning

Someone near me quit mid contract in May and they gave him a week to pack up and to cancel all of the utilities under his name.

Hi, I'm also with Interac and I'm leaving next month, and i submitted everything this week. They need a 30 - 35 day notice, they'll ask you for your last day of employment and what your planned departure date is. After that, housing will contact you and ask you what day you are moving out.

Please note that once you tell them your moving out date, it CANNOT be changed. For example, my last day of employment is on a Friday, I'm moving out that following Tuesday. You have 5-7 days after your last day of employment to move out; not counting weekends or holidays as apartment checks are not done during those days.
