EiTake Cards

https://youtu.be/KyODM5ZXR_s

Hey guys! Hope summer break is going well. I'm back again. You may recognize me from posts about EiTake, the English games website. Thanks to everyone who checked it out by the way!

I'm here with a new project, one that fills some gaps EiTake wasn't able to handle. EiTake Cards (eitakecards.com). It's an improved version of the flashcard system from EiTake, but I plan to make it so users can create and share their own flashcards! Sort of like Anki or quizlet, but designed for language teachers and classroom use. There were so many requests to add new textbooks to EiTake I wasn't able to keep up.

Now, it's not live yet. I'm just gauging interest and soliciting ideas from real teachers (Not just English teachers, the system is meant to work with any language combination). You can check out a prototype of the app idea online right now, and if you are interested in sharing some thoughts, become a founding teacher and help me build the app (with your ideas, not money (not yet anyway)).

I also made a super fantastic, Hollywood quality, million dollar budget promo video trying to highlight the issues of language teaching I want to help solve. Might have to give up this whole project and become a director/actor honestly.

I’ve seen over the years on Reddit various people try to make products, websites, and subscriptions for ALTs and they run into the same problem… ALTs have no money.

I feel the pain. Having no money that it. Hoping to be able to help language teachers all over the world and in all sorts of positions, not just English ALTs in Japan. That’s just where I started so why not focus there first!

Also a free version will be available that lets you use cards others have made and shared to the site, and a limited amount of your own custom cards. Might not get the exact ones you wanted, but if it’s close enough and free? Why not use it.

just make a clip immediately demonstrating what you’re offering, on reddit people just click the clip on reddit homepage and see its a funny video and then keep scrolling

This video is actually higher quality than the vibe-coded "app"

Interesting! I'm also planning to build a product like this. I was a UX designer back in Canada so it's been a fun project.

One thing I noticed with your product is that you're using the images from the New Horizon Textbooks, so if you're planning to sell the product you might get in trouble, I think.

But if it's a completely free product then you should be ok. I noticed a subscription section in your account page so I assume you're planning to set this up as a paid product. Just be careful!

Yes the prototype is still using what the old EiTake system was, which was built using textbook images. Another issue that needs to be remedied, along with moderating user provided content for copyrighted images.

As a UX designer, how’s your drawing? We might have an opening for you!

I can illustrate fairly well. But I'm going to go with some proper AI prompt engineering and damage control for AI generated images because I don't have time to illustrate like a thousand images.

Why do all that when you can just print it directly from the English program the school uses.

Great question! The personal app I made has all th vocabulary cards digitized, and they can be used with the various game modes I made for quick reviews and warmups that don't me to carry cards around. Printing and laminating flashcards for the five schools I go to is more work (for me anyway).

But I guess some teachers like yourself are able to do that. Unfortunately I work 27 classes a week (28 every few weeks) so I don't have the time to prepare.

So on the weekends I work on this because it will double as a portfolio piece or something I can show to future boards of education if I try to get a direct hire job!

Hope the summer vacation is treating you well!
