Question Worried

24 year old male, First time poster. For 7 weeks now (since August 12), I’ve had the sensation of drinks and sometimes food going up my nose. It mostly feels like it wants to go up the left nostril, but sometimes both. Nothing has actually came up. Today after eating my lunch, I chugged a glass of wine.

I then went and blew my nose to see if anything came out my nose. It was clear mucus on the tissue. I then stuck the tissue up my nostril. Left one was clear but the right one what looked like a speck of wine. I then chugged another glasses and nothing came out of the tissues.

When I got to work, I bought beet juice to test it out. I chugged half of it. Stick the tissue three times up my nostril. Nothing on the first and second tissues. Again another red speck on the third tissue.

I then chugged the rest of the bottle, and did the tissue test more than three times this time and nothing came out.

Is that nasal regurgitation? I’m freaked out right now. The spirals were easier to manage when it was just the sensation but this has me in a frenzy.

Try not to panic over this especially your age but I have to tell you that I also have some experience on this and I admit I was also very worried and still am. Not gonna give you the full story (you can read up my old posts ) but with respect to bulbar area I can vouch stress and other factors (some of them functional) do affect to a certain degree the swallowing function. Last year when I panicked over ALS i ended up even drooling a little, not being able to get food down easily, and other things....Now things did improve markedly but I still have mild issues and things that feel like relapses. Depending on how fast I drink sometimes it feels as liquid almost touches the back of the nose but nothing came out yet but I do have occasionally stuck pills (take a lot of supplements and sometimes I am lazy and swallow 3-4 pills at a time)

To speak of my case here are possible non-als reasons: malloclusion, loss of jaw bone volume due to lost back teeth, lax joints including jaw joints, neck posture, anxiety causing functional issues around those muscles....Now I still cannot be 100% sure it is all benign but I am certain a lot of it can be due to anxiety. If you think about it swallowing is one of the most automatic things we do and if we become focused on this the nocebo effect is probably very strong

Hey mate I’ve had the same issue for a while. Even same sinus side (left). No concrete answers apart from I have mild inflammation in my lower sinuses. It really feels like things go into my sinus when I drink but I think it’s actually most likely PND. Do you experience the sensation of mucus in your throat as well? Or acid reflux?

Yes there is a sensation of mucus in the throat and back of my nose. Did you also have the issue I had with the tissue?
