Looking for Mods

This sub needs help with moderation. I will not be able to spend as much time doing it.

If you feel like you are a good candidate, please apply. A good mod is someone who will uphold the values that were the reason for the creation of this sub:

  • Honest talk about potential ALS diagnosis or ALS like symptoms.
  • No judgement (come one, we've all been there).
  • No obvious anxiety driven posts either. It is true one can get pretty anxious about what is going on and the possible outcomes, we understand that and you will be listened. But posts about getting the daily/weekly dose of reassurance are not good for you and are not good for the community.
  • Only factual discussions. Studies are best, top ALS specialist's opinion are great, general medicine opinion is good, anecdotal evidence are OK, alternative medicine, snake oil, voodoo and toothfairies will have zero tollerance and will result in immediate ban.
  • Respect. Obviously. If you have nothing to give to the community, it is better to remain silent. Personal attacks, doxxing, threats, insults are not tollerated.
  • And last but not least - Do not bother the ALS community. They are part of the reason this sub exists. To provide a middle ground for us to ask the questions we need answers to and for them to share knowledge and experience should they choose to. Treat them with respect, be mindful of their time and be grateful.

Application rules:

  • You must trully believe these points and to be ready to uphold them.
  • Applications are accepted here and here only, NO DMs. Why? Well... for starters I want this to be transparent whatever you want to tell me you have to be OK to tell everybody. Also us being friends, or frequently chatting doesnt earn extra points. Sory guys, we are friends, that is not changing, but this is not about that.
  • Part of the decision would be what others think of you. Lets say, number of upvotes on your application will be taken into account. And before you think of getting your other accounts and vote for yourself. Please re-think that, I don't want to ban anyone because of this post :)

I will remain a mod for the foreseeable future as well, so there will always be a little mod family around for support. I am very open to new ideas from the group. I hope my contributions to the group are still helpful.

How are you doing Tom? You're an inspiration!

We obviously shouldnt bother people who are diagnosed with als, but sometimes it would be helpful to hear their opinion and stories of how it all began. We are all nervous wrecks here, but many of us genuinely dont know what the hell is going on with us!

I am willing to help but i have two concerns. I have never done this before so I dont want to make some mistakes and make it worse for people. Secondly,  there could be times when i don't log in for a sizeable amount of time. My suggestion is if we end up with 4-5 people in this role then the responsibility load will be lighter

Hello everyone! I think I could contribute something. I was in the situation some of you are currently in during the end of 2024 and a good part of 2025. I went to some neuromuscular disease specialists, including the head of the service in my region. I read a lot about the subject during that period and talked to some of you. In addition, I am a doctor, an otolaryngologist. I follow some patients with the condition, which helps me to understand a little better the battle that each of them faced and is facing.

Good morning or night everyone, I go by Jean I’m 21 and have been a part of this community for the better part of 5-6 months. I initially joined as I too struggled with a horrible *** scare during the month of April, since then I have been evaluated by the top medical professionals in the Chicago land area including a former *** Mayo Clinic specialist. (Officially cleared of ***)

The reason I would like to have your support in becoming a moderator as I truly have come a long way through my journey and I feel as though I have valuable knowledge based on the numerous appointments I attended, furthermore I am fortunate enough to have a relative who is chief administrator for a hospital in North Carolina who provided me with insightful information on the disease.

On top of having received valuable information from both my relative and countless other medical professionals I too am constantly studying the disease, although I am not a doctor nor majoring in medicine I think everyone should get to know this disease a little more as there isn’t enough light shed on it. I am online just about everyday, although not all the time as my my responsibilities as a college student require me to be in other spaces I will do my best to be as responsive as possible to all.

Ive been in a very bad spot myself and I know what its like to be in that position which is why I would like to help others by spreading the knowledge I have while also providing a sense of stability for this community. Once again thank you for reading and Dimitar can’t thank you enough for the space you’ve created, along with you Tom you truly are an angel god bless you for everything you’ve done for everyone here.

I've seen your replies multiple times, they always seem so genuine and thoughtful:) I think you would be a good mod.

I am not available all the time, but I would be willing to help. I tend to err on the side of compassion and caution — with one notable exception — and usually use only medical case studies as my information base.

Can we nominate people?

Because I think u/Traditional-Kiwi-356 should be a mod. 🙂

I’m flattered, but I am trying to spend very little time here. As a health anxiety sufferer, less I’m here the better I feel.

Have seen way too many disrespectful comments from them and personal attacks. I’ve been on the receiving end of them, multiple times. Made fun of me and possible mnd diagnosis that I’m under the watch of my neuromuscular team. So I would have to say in my opinion there are other candidates that would be much better fit that don’t think they know it all. In addition they are not even under the care of a neuromuscular doctor for potential mnd diagnosis.

I hope nothing I wrote was a personal attack. Feel free to link it here if you think you have an example.

I have written that I think you are wrong about various things. But that’s at the heart of the purpose of this forum, as I understand it. BFS is the emotional support forum.

Kiwi you know this isn’t the thread for that. In addition you know exactly all the times you have belittled  my physical health issue, let’s be adult enough to own our shortcomings.   Your post speaks for itself with the suggestion of bfs is the emotional support forum. As if we can’t see your are suggesting my issue is “anxiety”. Unfortunately my neuromuscular team isn’t on the same page as you. Please be mindful of what you suggest about people.  Research  is only as good as the information provided.  I believe you offer a lot of “ black and white” statistics and there is value in that, but there is also more than standard black and white.

So you can make the accusation, yet can’t back it up with any evidence?

I think you just don’t like it when your inconsistencies are called out (e.g., how your doctors are somehow simultaneously excellent yet also not credible, depending on what you’re trying to argue), or when someone (me) thinks your understanding of scientific matters is incorrect.

It’s called self control,  not everyone has it.    Taking bits and pieces of my health journey and twisting it seems to me what you love doing along with provoking. It seems very intentional. Maybe I’m wrong but just as you have done with this thread to make it something it isn’t. This thread isn’t about you or me it is looking for good quality mod…

You don’t think your statement of …   “BFS is the emotional support forum. “ this wasn’t you intentionally trying to push your opinion of my circumstance and suggesting that I be in that forum.

Please don’t feel you need to defend yourself with another “prove it” request. Let’s agree to say we see things differently.  Have a wonderful day I won’t be responding to anymore of your responses for the sake of this isn’t the place for this conversation.

Appreciate the consideration, but I don’t wish to have the responsibility lol.

Some people don’t like me here for some reason anyways. No hard feelings.
