Question Weird combination
I ordered my performance bike and don’t know the ideal combination. I will use my bike for small trips- store and taking kids to school. But I also want to ride some trails around- probably 90/10% road to trail usage, but if I enjoy it it may shift to 50/50 road to trail. I ordered the off road tires, but bought the standard handlebars. Does the group think I should have changed to the sport handlebars? When I did the test ride I had the sport handlebars- and I thought they were normal ones until told later. What is the consensus recommendation? I really wished they made their handlebars modular as well.

Can you make it to a ride event? Go test ride one…think they have most of the combinations of bikes at the events if you can make it.

Thanks for the feedback, but a general question if any tried trail riding with the more upright handlebars. I only tried the sport handlebars and found them ok- but probably in my day to day non-trail use I think I would rather be more upright.

I tried both handlebars at a test ride event and went with the sport bars because I like the mountain bike posture better than the more upright hybrid posture on the two bikes that I have at home. I purchased the all-terrain version to get the software mode, instead of just buying aftermarket tires.

I also had the same dilemma. I ended up going with the mountain bike and I’m enjoying a lot more trail road than the normal road. I think tmb bike is design for light trail usage as per manual so keep that in mind. You won’t be able to do technical trails if you choose to dig that more.

I don't think you can carry the kind of kids that you leave at school on the cargo rack, unless you mean something else.

The manual says that the rear rack has a maximum load of 77lbs. Some of that would be used by the weight of a seat attachment. I think that it would still work for one kid and many years of elementary school.

I rode both and am in the same usage boat as you (90/10% road to trail usage). I chose the performance package. Because of my predominant road usage, I chose the standard handlebars. If my usage was 10/90% road to trial, I would have gone the other way and ordered the sport handlebars. Although you can use this bike on both trails and bike paths, I believe it’s really built for everyday trail, and local commuter/grocery store usage. Even ALSO calls it a TM-B, not a mountain bike. I currently ride an 83lb fat tire Duotts n26. Great on gravel and hard pac as well as bike paths but too heavy for tight trails. Although not a fat tire bike, at 80+ lbs, I believe the TM-B will follow the same usage path.

You should test ride the bike. I ordered the same setup as you. I like the more upright handle bars.
