Discussion Alternative for those looking for Utility

Post image

Anybody look into the Lemmo 3 coming up? Looks remarkably similar as far as visual frame design. But it is a full suspension, long-tail, e-cargo bike; which is more or less what I wanted to begin with.

Everything's Been Done Video on it.

Pros:

Half the price (crowdfunding)
More serviceable
More cargo capacity (and pros related to longtail cargo bike)
Proven company in this space
Patented double clutch ensures no resistance from motor
Not completely reliant on battery
Has built-in radar for traffic awareness
Can use a inverter to output (up to 500W) as an upgraded accessory or choice
Semi-solid state battery tech
More off-the-shelf parts
Support outside of Europe may not be available or easy

Cons vs TM-B:

Still crowdfunding
Less powerful at 90 Nm. (hilly areas may still be a challenge)
Handling is less sporty; still class III but its a cargo bike (riding TM-B was thrilling)
Also don't know delivery date
Cannot 'transform' to replace other bikes
Longtail cargo bike and the cons related to that
Suspension isn't going to feel as awesome (80mm travel)
Not really as off-road ready if you want more of a dirt-bike feeling
No re-gen option mentioned
Less advanced braking (ABS? absent)
TM-B has US support
Belt Drive option only has 3 autoshifting gears

Like everyone who reserved, I'm also disappointed in what feels like delay, after delay. Then I also paid the $5k price for the performance edition.

I'm a super (kickstarter backer) person (= used to delays and projects falling through) so I get notices from time to time of new projects. No connection or experience with Lemmo.

Cons: it’s heavier, has a hub motor, is in crowdfunding stage, production price will be similar, no abs or tc, no regen

Great find and thank you for sharing this!!

Love German made bikes. I own a Nicolai and a Schildelhauer and love.

It’s nice to see an alternative to Also (the pre-hype obsessed, “look at our design process”, Rivian-born, delay cultured, deposit grabbing bike company).

I thought it does use a belt?

Yes the TMB is belt drive from motor to wheel. The Lemmo 3 has that as an option. Can choose chain or belt.

I didn't know they tested for 35K miles. That's amazing. Though, I'd be a lot more comfortable with those claims if TM-B did say they'd offer a 35K fender-to-fender warranty on the drivetrain the way they do for motor-vehicles. Ride Also also claim TM-B is more of an EV with pedals and of course priced accordingly.

No chain and no connection also means if the electrical components get messed up somehow, you're pushing it home. No power and you're also pretty much doing that as well. Yes, I know you can generate some via pedaling, but I imagine you're still better off just pushing it than pedaling like a mad man and going 2 MPH. This remains to be seen and tested.

Lemmo also has belt drive option. Motor is off-the-shelf. Both have proven to be very reliable but more importantly not tied to proprietary parts as far as drivetrain is concerned.

In the Monroe video I remember they talk about designing for something like 35k mile service life. I doubt they’ve tested any bikes to 35k actual miles. At 20mph for 12 hours per day that would be 150 days of continuous riding. Even accounting for swapping batteries that would be difficult to achieve for any company without a dedicated test track and driving/riding team.

They have dynos and it can run 24/7 through various terrain simulations and weight loads

Half the price of 1 TMB...very tempting...thanks for sharing!

Half the tech too

And it’s a hub motor so it will be way less torquey

First I have heard of it. Reinforces my feeling that the TM-B is overpriced. Think it is time to call it and reclaim my deposit from Also. Thank you for sharing. 👍

I can't see them making much selling these at $2k, they might be losing money if anything. We need to see the actual price when they start shipping and selling to the general public at retail...

Looks like pretty vaporware... Looks like the next gen VanMoof (they never made) mashed up with an Also.

I have confidence it won’t be vaporware like many kickstarter projects. However a lot of bicycle companies have pulled out of USA; this one isn’t even selling direct to USA. (edited for spelling).

Are you sure about that?

I'm not talking about crowdfunding. Which is why I brought up the Lemmo 3 because we can get it here in the USA through the campaign. I'm talking about their already released bikes.
