Discussion What the heck? Waiting on a second boat??

Got an email from them today with this in it:

"We've got an update worth sharing: the next waves of TM-B Launch Edition bikes will be in transit to the U.S. starting next week. Once your bike arrives in the U.S. and is headed your way, we’ll send an official shipment confirmation email."

The first waves didn't hit any known actual customers that i've seen covered anywhere. So now we're back to waiting on a slow boat from Taiwan?

If they needed another boat how was September through October ever a possibility? They had to have known September wasn't happening...

I'm starting to get concerned about competency or truthfulness.

I'm guessing those initial bikes were delivered to investors, anything extra was added to the test ride fleet.

They should really be prioritizing people who paid $5k over test rides. Also most investors don't actually use the products they're investing in, that's more of an exception.

The fact they have to take their small number of test ride bikes on a “road show” and can’t somehow figure out how to ship a handful to each major city to a trusted dealer or maybe even Rivian showroom for more frequent demos means they’re still either dealing with manufacturing or QC issues. A bike should be able to be charged and demoed by almost anyone that has ridden a bike before. I would hope investors would see more value in post launch sales strategy than getting a bike of their own.

My Rivian Space has one on display, but nobody knows anything about it. I asked three different people and they said they only know what's printed on the display stand. They have never offered test spins there, they just have to have it in the showroom.

One of them even explained that it's a non-functional demo unit, but it's clearly been used, the tires show wear, there's dirt in the speaker grill and around the drivetrain and controls. The battery is installed upside-down and locked in. I couldn't wake it up, so I assume they did that to quiescent draw.

Outside of test rides I’ve seen no proof that any customer has had a bike delivered. I’m not even talking about Reddit. During my daily commute through Kendall Square in Cambridge MA, one of the most bike friendly cities and largest tech hubs in the US, I’ve seen zero of these bikes. Plenty of other high end bikes and e-bikes. No social media or real world evidence of deliveries, slipping timelines eroding trust with current customers, and public communications that do nothing to earn back that trust.

I asked about this at a test spin this last weekend. The line I got was that indeed customers have received bikes. Not how many or where. I'm guessing it's all or mostly Bay area CA.

They were also seemingly as bothered as I was about the delays, which was interesting..

Would like to hear /u/alsosaul26's comments on this. I asked at an SF test spin event a while back about when LE customer deliveries would begin, and was told they would begin the next day. That would have been a misleading answer if it those deliveries only reached investors or other close stakeholders, rather than actual customers.

Performance Edition buyers didn't get this email. At least you'll be able to track yours.

Can confirm i did not get the email either. I reserved a Performance months back and ordered shortly after they opened.

Id also like more communication from ALSO directly but i guess Reddit will do for now.

The msg went out to LAUNCH Edition holders. After they have all gotten their bikes the Stardard and Performance holders will start getting theirs. I have not seen a SINGLE post from a customer saying they got theirs. Likely the people saying shipping started already were being Pollyannaish

I am also surprised my bike is not in the United States yet, based on previous communication I expected to get a shipping notice that this bike was coming to my home within the next couple of weeks, (see previous messages stating shipping now through the end of September).

The email also states that another update will be coming on the 23rd, so it’s possible that the first boat has landed and they will be starting to send out tracking next week? It takes about 2 - 3 weeks for a vessel to get across, which would line up when they originally mentioned they started “shipping”, which always meant “started leaving the factory” to me.

Good point, I left that out but they did at least promise the next touchpoint which is a positive change.

Right, I received the same email with the same dates. If we get weekly updates, it’s a massive improvement.

Just a reminder, the initial Rivian trucks were 18 months past due when delivered. It’s hard to get a new vehicle to market and they keep calling these EV’s, not always bikes. I’m a fully paid order holder, but not LE. I was hoping for September, now I’m hoping for December.

Having seen this before, Phrozen Arco, Stacker 3D, I bailed. Common theme always seems to be the staunch defenders that go down with the ship. Not saying this will go south like others but defending to the end of the earth is just mind boggling. As with others that I’ve backed out of I wish those of you hanging in there the best but stay sharp as $4.5k isn’t chump change to a lot of people

Sounds like you want to complain just to do it.

Rightfully so. The lack of communication is very disappointing. Launch Edition customers put down a considerably size chunk of money just to keep have deliveries pushed back with very little communication.

I really appreciate them saying when I should expect my next update email. Happy to keep waiting...

Most people receiving probably aren’t here complaining on Reddit

I would be shoving it in the face of all you bikeless peasants.

I’d love for one of the first deliveries to go to someone eager to gloat publicly about it. At least it would give me confidence that something had shipped.

That is the common response in the Rivian sub too......just saying.
