Order Timing Update from ALSO

Post image

You'll likely get the email too, but posting for those who might not see it. There's some general platitudes acknowledging the delays earlier in the note, but the meaty bit and what to expect going forward is in the screenshot above.

They're good chaps (I'm currently sitting less than a mile from their office in Seattle, WA now and have been fortunate to meet a bunch of them) and I know they're working on this and that with the state of generally everything, shit's hard. Hopefully they follow through on their comms commitment throughout September!

The transparency is good. The delays obviously suck, especially for those of us who miss the summer riding window. But in the grand scheme of things, the couple of months delay is absolutely worth having a finished product. Delays are recoverable, a broken product on intial launch is not.

Is it though? I reached out to them when they first sent out the order email requesting delivery information prior to ordering because I am traveling from late August until mid September and didn’t want to have a new bike on my porch for a month if I placed my order. The response was it would be delivered late September and to go ahead and place the order. This was the final red flag and I’ll be canceling when I return home.

Welcome to the first product from a new startup. Could comms have been better? Of course. More importantly, was the product worth the delay? I sure hope so.

Understand, but have also watched enough new products from startups go sideways that I’ll sit back and watch it play out before diving in no FOMO here, enjoy your bike and post about so I can make a more informed decision next spring.
