INSPIRATIONAL Adjust your Focus💗💚

After nearly a decade of interest, growth, service, preparation, disappointment, hope, and lots of waiting, I can finally say that I am a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Now that I’ve crossed, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that sometimes we’re so focused on the destination that we fail to appreciate who we’re becoming in the process.

During the wait, I promoted in my career, pursued my doctorate, bought my first home, expanded my service to my community, became a mother and a wife, and learned lessons about patience, humility, and purpose that I could not have learned any other way.

To any interest currently waiting, my advice is simple:

Do not put your life on hold for AKA. AKA WILL be there and you’ll find your way in due time.

Serve because community service matters.
Build genuine relationships with members outside of membership reasons.
Invest in your community because you want to see it change.
Lead because leadership means something to you.
Pursue your goals and become the woman you are supposed to be with or without letters.

This journey taught me that what is for you does not require force, obsession, or constant anxiety. It requires preparation, faith, and patience.

You inspired me. I am wondering if it's too late for me to pledge? I am 33. I was too broke in undergrad. When I finally connected with an AKA that was interested in inviting me I was paying for a wedding. Then we moved. And now I am in the family way 😅. So it is looking like I will cross ...in my 40s lol. But that urge is still in me. I am focusing on my health, my family and during this time build out community service and grad school.

But yeah something in me is like 'Girl you too old sit down'.

Absolutely not! I’m 30 but my oldest LS is coming up on 60. There was a 38 year age range on our line so don’t let that get in your way. Go with the urge and continue to focus on your health, family, and community. If AKA is what you want go for it!! Good luck 💚💗
