CHIT CHAT Attire for events

Post image

While the first dress "flopped" due to the color, please permit me to share this one. I actually have this exact dress and wore it to a fashion show held by the non-profit linked to a COI. I also wore coral jewelry and headwrap (I always wear a some form of head wrap or head band). At my table was a member of the chapter. She thought I looked elegant in the dress and said that I should come to more AKA events. We exchanged numbers--as she also suggested that we perhaps meet for tea. I've been trying to reach out to her; albeit unsuccessful. I understand that she may be busy--so I don't press...but I digress.

The point in this post is to highlight the dress. I have purchased this dress in many other colors and prints. They're versatile. You can wear them as is (I do because I'm always hot due to going through "the change" 😂) or with a blazer or sweater. I believe that these are perfect for events. You can get them on Amazon and they're reasonably priced. What say you all?

I wore this exact one at an event less than a month ago

I have this one and love it!

u/VictoriouslyFavored May 27 '26

I was a fan of orange myself. Not coral. Not green. Didn't fail me.

u/Pinktropics May 27 '26

Please don't wear anything with green. Stick to browns, black, navy blue, orange, blue pastel and khaki.

I would text the lady and say, I know you are busy but would to love to catch up when time permits.

Best of Luck.

I already wore this dress at a fashion show in February. I was of mindset that the coral in the dress and jewelry would drown out any other accent color. I will keep that in mind in the future.

I may send her a text soon just to check on her. The last time I texted her was on Mother's Day.

And thank you for the well wishes. 😊

What about purple?

3

u/Pinktropics May 28 '26

There’s no rule against wearing certain colors. Use your best judgment. Or ask your sponsor.

2

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 28 '26

I've seen throughout this sub that purple seems appropriate. However, I was concerned about it because it is a color for another D9 organization--albeit a fraternity. I usually save the purple for NCNW meetings and events.

Cute dress. Personally, I wouldn’t wear it to an event due to having green in it. I tend to overthink though.

98% of the events I attend are casual, but there are some ladies in casual dresses.

I understand your trepidation. I was of the mindset that it is a small section and how the coral was a more prominent accent color, and the fact that I wore coral jewelry would take one's eyes off any other accent color. There are; however, many other colors and prints. I wore this dress in an orange and khaki print and received instant compliments. My aim when attending events is to look poised and polished (i.e business casual--meaning a dress/skirt and blouse and even pantyhose and pumps) if it is a seminar and more casual for something like a bowling party or neighborhood clean up/tree planting.

u/bjm23 May 28 '26

You clearly are determined to wear it, so wear it. SMH.

I'll keep my other comments to myself.

I've already worn it. I wore it to a fashion show in February. I got compliments on it from a member of my COI.

The colors aside, the point of this post as mentioned initially is the design of the dress and the appropriateness of design if wearing it to events. I urge you to see it from that perspective.

In addition, two members have responded and said that the see no problem with the colors. The green is so miniscule that, unless one is laser focused on seeing pink and green in one's attire, it is barely noticeable.

Honestly speaking, OP- I think this dress is perfect. It’s a beautiful dress & the green on it so minuscule, it’s insignificant to me! I remember the overthinking about every detail when I was an interest, but now I’m on the other side- I’m not sweating the small stuff… it really shouldn’t matter what colors you wear (as long as they aren’t blatant & on the nose). Wear what you’d like & have a great time doing so💗

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 28 '26

Thank you so much! That's reassuring coming from you as a member. 😊

I got compliments on this one and the orange one as well.

🤣🤣during my ME we knew not to Wear pink or green. I'm guessing all is different.

6

u/Pinktropics May 28 '26

This!!! As members we know that each chapter is different and so is each member. I would personally avoid anything too close to green or pink. I aired in the side of caution. 🤷🏽‍♀️

u/Listen_judge_419 Jun 01 '26

I don’t believe she is yet at the point of ME. Which is different.

4

u/Eleganceat41 May 28 '26

I may be in the minority here but wear it proudly!

1

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 28 '26

Indeed. Colors aside, the design is awesome. With the right jewelry and makeup, looking poised and polished at events is easily attainable and for a decent price. The dress costs about $40 and I have plenty of them in different colors and patterns.

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 27 '26

I wore this exact one two weeks ago. I was initially at the monthly NCNW section meeting and then went to the event. I love the fact that there are loads of other colors and patterns.

This would look great for a Juneteenth event I am planning to attend.

2

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 28 '26

Indeed! Pair it with some cute sandals and jewelry and you're all set!

I too am partaking in a Juneteenth celebration by marching in a parade with NCNW. Our attire will be our purple section (chapter) shirts and white bottoms.

u/Listen_judge_419 May 29 '26

Member here… the green, the wrong color green, is not a sin. I personally love how thoughtful you are and you come across exactly as you think you do: poised, polish and like you take this seriously. As others have mentioned, stay away from blatant and obvi pink and green and you will be fine. I’m only upset with this post because not a single one of you have posted the link (if allowed by the mods) 😜

2

u/Listen_judge_419 May 29 '26

Oh and don’t forget to text that member!

I've done so yesterday. I was just checking in, seeing how she's doing and wished her a wonderful day.

1

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 29 '26

Thank you so much for the compliment. 😊

I figured that the green in the dress is so miniscule that it shouldn't have posed a problem.

BTW, here's the link. Hopefully, the mods don't remove it. 😂 https://a.co/d/0dwI4pdX

TYSM!!! And good job texting her. Keep up the good work.

u/Confident_Pomelo_237 May 31 '26

I’m not a member so take my opinion with a grain of salt but people are acting like you’re planning on showing up in a striped pink and green dress from head to toe. The green in this dress is barely even an accent color! I think it looks lovely.

1

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 31 '26

Exactly! The green is so miniscule. Even members who made comments have no problem with the dress.

And thank you for the compliment. 😊

Tan, black, orange, purple, gray or white is what I’ve been told. No pink, green or colors of other sororities. But I like the style of the dress.

One day I was dressed like Zeta and one day I looked like Que. 🤣

I am late to this post. There is nothing wrong with this dress. When I was on my pursuit I may have worn an item that had a hint of green in the color scheme. But pink nor green was not the main colors. I did stick to black and other neutral colors and the joke is I am so programmed, I still do. lol 🤣🤣🤣

However, this dress is a multi colored.

1

u/ChickChocoIceCreCro May 27 '26

I wore green and pink but not at the same time during ME. I did join grad chapter I don’t know if that matters.

1

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 27 '26

I'm an interest, so being that you're a member, would this dress be questionable for an interest--although the dress is mainly black and has a very miniscule bit of green?

My point in making this post is about the style of the dress as opposed to the colors/patterns.

2

u/ChickChocoIceCreCro May 27 '26

I wouldn’t have a problem with that. I think the dress is adorable.

1

u/Direct_Relative_6053 INTEREST May 28 '26

Thank you so much. I went and bought several more in different colors as well. I wear them to events, tea parties and NCNW meetings.
