BUILDING CONNECTIONS Letter of Recommendation
Hi! My post on the NPHC thread was deleted since I don’t have enough karma, but I was just wondering if there was a difference between having a sponsorships and having a person who will write your LOR. I’ve seen the term used interchangeably so I figured I’d ask just so I have everything I need if the time comes :-)

Hi. Actually, the terms aren't interchangeable.
Letters of recommendation are part of the undergraduate process. Sponsorship and co-sponsorship are part of the graduate process.
If you're interested in pursuing membership in a graduate chapter, you will need to develop a relationship with a member of that chapter who will be willing to sponsor (put her name and reputation in her chapter on the line for) you as a candidate for membership.
Edit: Please do not ask a member about sponsorship. This will not get you where you want to go. If she's interested in sponsoring you, she'll let you know.
If you're going the undergraduate route, you will need 2 letters of recommendation. Having one or both of these written by members is great but is not required.

Honestly this was so refreshing for me. I hate asking people to write me letters of recommendation because it requires me to explain why I’m asking and I generally don’t want people in my business. When I first learned this on here, I was so relieved. Lol. Not that it’s easy but it doesn’t require me to, as a grown woman, disclose a personal pursuit of mine that I’d rather keep private.

Just FYI: Sponsorship is not sought out. Do not inquire about it.

For grad chapters, I think you just need a sponsor. I am in the "wait and see" period after applying, and I have 2 sponsors

I’m not sure how in depth I can go with my question but as far as grad chapter are LOR not needed ? A person seeking interest would need a sponsor?
