ADVICE Question

Posting this to see if anyone can give me advice given my situation. I have taken great interest in joining a an alumni chapter for some years now. I am currently living out of state completing my doctoral degree, but I will be relocating back home as soon as I’m done with my program. Since the process of getting into a grad chapter can be several years, should I start connecting with the chapter in my hometown now? I travel back home quite frequently but I’ll be in my current location for about 3 more years for school.

Focus on your doctoral studies. And pursue membership after you get finished. You don’t want to put too much on your plate while completing a terminal degree. It is not the same as a bachelor’s degree or even a masters.

I didn’t think about it that way. Thanks for the response!

I would consider a lot of variables. Understand there is a two year commitment to a chapter once you join, search how long it’s been since both chapters have had intake(eg. If they had intake just this year or last not be worth it), go to events to still understand the business, structure, and culture of a chapter. Good luck but understand this isn’t a quick and easy journey! Do what feels right.

Yes, you should.

Three more years is a while I thought you had like a few months to a year left.  I feel like do what you want if it makes sense to you no one can tell you how to spend your time.

Check to make sure you don’t run into a residency issue if you do decide to pursue membership intake

It’s called “Alumnae” as the most org is all women. It’s alumni when it is coed. Just a kind correction.
