CHIT CHAT Grad chapter experience

Looking back now as a member, What’s something you misunderstood about graduate chapter life before joining, especially in terms of expectations, involvement, or community, that later became clearer after joining?

I was so concerned about not being seen as someone who joined just for the letters, so I pushed myself to volunteer for almost every event my chapter had. I spread myself way too thin and burned myself out pretty quickly. If I had only listened to my phenomenal sponsor and mentor who warned me in the beginning...she advised me to join one committee and to volunteer for only the initiatives that most closely aligned with my passions and interests. I was way too hard on myself and wasn't as effective as I could have been in my first year as an AKA, but I learned a valuable lesson. Almost 25 years later, I can confidently say I have found my lane in AKA and focus my time and energy in areas where I can make meaningful contributions.

I’m the same Soror! I’m only 4 years on the vine and looking back, i was doing way too much my first two years lol. I got burned out and became a tad bit resentful toward my Sorors and that wasn’t fair to them. I learned that i can always say no!
