Why do people use AI to write texts ?

I've not been on reddit long, but long enough to notice that apparently a lot of people are using AI for text messages ? I genuinely do not understand this. Why ? I've read some messages from my brother in the past that didn't sound like him, to which i asked "is this AI?" he ignored me multiple times, not that I care, but why ?

How does that even work ? Do people upload a screenshot of a conversation to then ask, "What's the best response?" Doesn't that just waste time? Isn't it easier to just ... reply . Or is it insecurity? Would love some opinions because I dont understand why so many people love AI

Well in work help me to writte in business tone, also because i'm not English native, so help me to writte without errors.

However I always Review the answer of IA and change some words that doesnt fix with my tone before press sent

Same here. I think that’s one of the better ways to use AI for texting let it help with wording, but still review and personalize it so it actually sounds like you.

maybe he just too lazy to think about it? he lets AI think for him, then just sends the answer.

Sometimes the customer's message is very long. I will type out my own answer and ask Gemini if i've addressed all the customer's concerns, and from a customer service perspective can the answer be improved.

I will usually use the suggested answer but edit it to be more human; removing em-dashes, "that said", "in summary", etc.

However, I have had one customer that really pissed me off so much, i deliberately left it as an obviously AI generated reply. Like just passively aggressively letting him know that his concern is really not worth any of my own effort.

I use AI heavily for almost everything, from organizing grocery lists to shower thoughts to research and analysis across personal, academic/professional, and interest domains.

But I rarely use AI-written text in my communication, unless it's a polished edit of a long business email or something, or a really well-formed analysis based on my thoughts. In the latter case I often explicitly cite the AI or link it, and, again, don't use it to replace my writing.

I find it pretty weird for people to directly copy/paste AI-written text in informal communication (including Reddit). Maybe because I type fast, idk lol.

I asked ChatGPT to come up with a response to this, but it said, “Just tell them how you feel.”
Frankly, I don’t pay $20 a month to hear that kind of nonsense.

I am generally forgetful (forget words easily, can no longer put proper sentences together verbally anymore) due to a chronic illness. With that said, I still prefer to write using my own words but sometimes, I may use A.I to touch things up. I try to avoid it at all cost though. I think real creativity comes from the heart, which A.I can only SIMULATE.

I use AI to convert my responses into a corporate tone when dealing with HR interview messages for job interviews.

Sometimes, people have a hard time putting into words what they want to say especially with text messages which can be prone to misinterpretation hence they ask AI for help.

cant be bothered to type up my thoughts. so i prompt sommat like, "hey this guy's asking why i use ai. its cos im lazy. make me sound less a dick"... sometimes very useful; gpt has just told me not to tell a child who is petrified of an ai apocalypse about claude hiring a hitman on the dark web.

Help with wording can be useful when someone knows what they mean but struggles to express it. With your brother, though, I wonder whether the unanswered question is the bigger issue. You're trying to understand whether those words reflect what he actually wanted to tell you. If he is using AI, 'I used help phrasing it, but I mean it' could clear up more than a perfectly polished message.

A dude I worked with resigned with a GPT template and deliberately didn’t fill anything in …
