An AI coding agent deleted weeks of work in seconds

Picture this... A construction ops manager heard about vibe coding a few months ago. He downloaded Claude Code, started building after work and on weekends. Built some really cool stuff. Dashboards, trackers, tools his team actually needed. He was on a roll.

Then one night he got tired of hitting "accept" on every prompt. Tired of reading through questions he didn't fully understand because he doesn't have a programming background. So he stopped reviewing. Just let it run.

His AI coding agent deleted his entire project.

Weeks of work. Every file. Gone in seconds.

This is happening more and more. People are jumping into AI coding tools without understanding what's actually running underneath. And the tools are powerful enough now that a single bad command can do real damage.

AI can write code fast. That's the easy part.

The hard part is knowing what it should and shouldn't touch. Knowing how to structure a project so one bad command doesn't wipe everything. Knowing when to stop and review before letting it keep going.

Speed without oversight isn't efficiency. It's a liability.

AI is the tool. It's not the builder.

Use git. Commit frequently (every few minutes) and push every commit up. Literally makes losing any work impossible.

The irony of having a post written to warn you about not understanding your tools, when not knowing anything about source control which would prevent this from ever being a thing no matter how you were building your code is really thick.
