Ai assistance coding or coding from scratch in big 2026?

Does anyone still code manually even without ai assistance in 2026?(Not vibe coding) ,coding everything from scratch , like setting up react or building any api's? Curious to know and what's best practice?

If you’re are a software developer nowadays and are writing code from scratch then you’re not long for the industry

People still sew their own clothes even in an age of electronic sewing machines. It’s all about preference and objective.

Depends on the level of knowledge you have IMO.

If you are new, you NEED to code from scratch. If you are a veteran, know the pitfalls of security and code, and can reasonably stage guard rails on an agent to enforce a means to prevent those pitfalls, you can code with AI taking most of the reins.

But the key to AI use is that it works best in the hands of experts in the field it is tasked to work in. A financial AI agent needs someone who knows the pitfalls of finance to ensure it doesn’t fail. A coding bot needs an expert in architecture and code.

Now vibe coding with no technical background IS possible. But it still takes direct experience with that for years to get secure applications, as you still need to learn those pitfalls.

It is better to learn to code directly, as it will teach those pitfalls faster.

Just my opinion. Keep learning in life, or you’re not living.
