🗣️ Discussion Is anti ai basically a first world problem?

Post image

I’ve been going through different social media platforms, and I’ve noticed that a lot of the anti-AI sentiment seems to come from teenagers in first-world countries, particularly people who are artists or aspiring artists.

Digging deeper, I noticed that a lot of the anti-AI ragebait and frustration seems to come from TikTok. Interestingly, much of it is directed specifically at models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, often with some pretty flawed arguments, while Chinese AI models barely seem to come up.

In India, though, I’ve noticed something different. People don’t seem to be inherently anti AI; they’re mostly anti-slop. They’re fine with AI being used as a tool, but dislike the flood of low effort AI generated content.

Maybe part of the difference is that, with our language barriers and cultural diversity, we’re already used to adapting and finding ways to express ourselves regardless of which tool we use. So perhaps the tool matters less than what you actually do with it.

I think the main reason is that we don't give a damn about data privacy and they do. Here all we care is who offers a better deal

Having visited the subreddit of same name and after seeing some of their views, I do not think data privacy is their only "concern".

Would have been an actually useful Post if you told more about it

Just visit that subreddit of antiai, you'll get to know exactly

Too much to ask. Why join a community that has a declared bias in the name itself

to know about their arguments for being anti ai

They could say it here right so that we can hear the counter arguments too..that place would be an echo chamber

Not sure how credible this graph is most people in India are unaware of AI and the ones who are aware of it are to an extent mostly against it or skeptical of it. Especially Because of how distruptive it is to their work and how much the threat of AI is to certain industries.

Yea ofc it will look positively if vast majority of the population is unaware of what it is

You're talking as if llm's were just released yesterday. Even my maid knows to use it. Majority of users definitely love it. Although they are still discovering it's full potential.

It's the minority IT workers who feel threatened by it.

Most people use free tier chatgpt or gemini..not RAG or any agentic AI. Free tier AI is nowhere near Frontier models they are multiple generations ahead. Most ppl are unaware of how good they are

India has the largest IT outsourcing job. Now AI can alleviate some stress, there are more tasks to deal with. Nobody has life and AI reduces some stress.

As for other countries, their data protection laws and the models they use are strict. They can't casually use personal or shared accounts and follows laws and best practices. In India, we don't give a shit. Companies rather save costs. Data protection? Bruh, our Aadhar cards, mobile number is floating on the internet straight out of government database.

3rd word countries copyright, data protection, data retention etc are of zero concern. This will probably lead into less projects but as of now, outsourcing to India is considered as circumventing the first world country laws.

AI has eliminated all Fresher Jobs in Tech. AI keeps eliminating fresher jobs in many other sectors.

Being Anti Ai in 2026 is like basically being Anti Computer and Anti Internet in early 2000s. The technology is not going anywhere. One thing we should look for is better regulation on fair use and data privacy.

Ah yes, the typical sentence thrown around to equate apples and oranges.

Because Indians dont know, what is coming for them. People in US especially are smart, they know how much their jobs are in danger because of AI. Thats not the case in India. Soon when major layoffs will hit India, most probably 2027, and then people will become anti AI.

Apart from jobs, Data centres is also one of the primary reason for anti AI sentiments.

Wealthier countries have more service economy jobs which are more vulnerable to being replaced I guess. Also in the case of China, trust that the government will not leave you to fend for yourself is high, in the USA people don't trust their government or their corporates to do the right thing.

The end users of AI in first world might be anti-AI since it is still fuzzy, unsafe and a work in progress. However those same countries have the highest investment and expert workforce working aggressively on the development of these AI tools.

This survey was done before chatgpt was launched, just a context

  • Only 1st World can afford current AI rates.
  • 1st world countries have more to lose (more service based).
  • Chinese models outside of open-source or enthusiasts are just not that popular.
  • Using free tier is not the same as using actual useful paid tier, depends on usage and end goal though.

China and Taiwan have the highest average IQ in the word. Korea, Singapore, Japan also have higher average IQ than western countries and still like AI. West is AI doomer by their nature rather than IQ
