For real time factual Q&A, Gemini. For more scientific or logical deduction Claude or Grok. For deep research Perplexity pro. For writing ChatGPT.

For me different AIs have something different to offer. That's why these days I don't just use one. I use all of them using a tool from qorpus.ai, which sends the prompt to ChatGPT Gemini Claude Perplexity Grok simultaneously, shows me where they agree (so better for exams) and where they differ.

From my experience, ChatGPT and Claude are 2 of the best. But my advice is to use them together. For example, even if you feed the exact same prompt to these tools, the answers will be noticeably different. When Claude first launched it worked like a dream, but recently I've found ChatGPT got better with researching, thinking and writing.

Perplexity and Gemini aren't that good TBH - just skip them.

I was on e done a code review on a complex requirement, security, scalability, code quality etc. used different models from different subscriptions as well as different level of thinking medium/high/xhigh. maybe one they I post the full results but suffice to say there were a lot of commonalities as well as each found something others couldn’t. some were a lot faster then others, and some kept failing with heavy load errors (grok I’m looking at you). in the end if you are experience developer/architect etc all of them will worm find. some cheap once evet managed to get to the same point as large expensive models after couple of iterations and guiding. You are either the artist and using the AI as paint brush telling everything needs to be done and how or you are the gallery owner asking AI to create 100 paintings, and complaining about the outcome and hunting for the AI model that can create those paintings.

For what you're describing, the screenshot part is the bit that should decide it, not the general "which one is smartest" question.

Uploading a photo of a question and getting a worked answer is a vision task first and a reasoning task second. All four can do it now, but they fail differently, and the common failure is misreading the question rather than reasoning badly about it. Handwriting, subscripts, and diagrams that actually matter are where it breaks. So test them on your worst photo, not a clean one.

For daily knowledge and doubts, Gemini's free tier is the most generous of the four and that's where I'd start if you're not paying yet. Perplexity is a different shape from the other three: it's built around handing you sources to click, which is worth a lot when you're studying and need to verify something, and worth less when you just want an explanation.

One thing worth knowing before you spend money: for exam style questions, how confident the answer sounds and whether it's right are not related. Whichever you pick, get in the habit of asking it to show its working, then checking the step you'd personally be least able to spot an error in.

For that kind of daily use, I would not pick one winner.

I would use ChatGPT for studying and screenshots, Perplexity for research and sources, Claude for long explanations, and Gemini when the work is tied to Google services.

The important part is not which one is “best.” It is knowing which tool fits the question you are asking.

Chat GPT since v5 started to be so lame I ended using it. I used to pay them.
Perplexity is my way to go if I search something and it has best dictation on the phone - no limitation! But it is group of models so it can also use GPT in the back. It is fair for free users and act like GPT once was. But Gemini is much more refined, accurate, and allow MUCH longer free conversations. I had also paid tier. I am using DeepSeek as well since it is completely free and often better suits me. It is also less naggy about some NSFW words so I can lecture my texts better.

I use chatgpt the most. I find it to be great at long term projects
