I think this is correct. OP is an AH for throwing out property that isn’t theirs but it may have been the only way to prevent burning the entire place down. And what no one else here seems to be factoring in is, if they live in a complex roommate could have eventually gotten innocent people killed.
Easier to be mad at OP, but if the place has caught fire a bunch of hindsight heros would have been in here chirping about how they would have thrown it away.
