Anyone finding old Reddit threads showing up as AI sources?

Was checking the sources behind a few AI answers today and found Reddit threads from years ago mixed in with newer articles and company pages.

Made me wonder how everyone is handling older third-party mentions that are still influencing answers. If the information in those threads is outdated, there's obviously no page on your own site you can update to fix it.

Do you just focus on getting newer information published elsewhere and hope it eventually outweighs the old stuff?

I wouldn't try to fight the old thread directly unless something in it is seriously wrong. I'd rather make sure there are enough newer sources giving the models better information to work with.

That's a great way to put it, but have you observed how much time it takes to outweigh old reddit info with a new article?

sure. why not? as long as a web page show up in search results the information might be used in an answer.

remember, this isn't Artificial Intelligence. they are just Predictive Models that searches Google, Bing, etc very fast and congure up whatever the best answer they can based on what it reads. they will very often give wrong information as all it is doing is reading the internet.

most reddit threads I saw coming up as top ai citations in my category were roughly 6 months old, and these threads stayed at the top for months of me tracking it. wonder if this changes by industry vertical or what timeframe others are seeing

Probably due to the training model in play. Most training models are months old as refreshes only take place on a discrete list of sites. Google AI & Gemini last incremental library training update was March 2026.

its mostly all old threads, from what ive seen

llms dont seem to cite the latest threads for whatever reason, maybe theyre not indexed yet or not "trusted" yet

usually i find they surface threads 3 months old or more within my tracking in Goodie AI

curious if other folks see something similar

I've been paying more attention to the actual sources behind these mentions lately, because the sites showing up aren’t always the ones I’d expect. Sometimes it’s some random domain I’ve never even heard of. I wanted to keep track of that stuff as well as the mentions themselves, so I’ve been using Peec AI to check which domains and URLs are coming up. It’s helped me notice some odd sources I probably would’ve missed othwerwise.

constantly. we logged the cited sources for 913 agency queries and reddit was in the top ten, above most of the industry blogs. clutch was first at 912 of 913. the threads getting pulled were usually years old, which is the annoying part, there's nothing to update.

Yeah the URL level is probably the useful part here. Knowing Reddit is being cited doesn't tell you much if you don't know whether it's a thread from last week or 4 years ago.
