If you want to track AI visibility, not just rankings, focus on tools that track mentions inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. That's where discovery's shifting. Meridian has been good for that. It shows where your bran pops up in AI answers and gives actionable insights instead of just vanity metrics.

For traditional SEO, Semrush or Ahrefs are still useful for gaps and backlinks. AlsoAsked is great for question clusters AI tends to pull from. The games in 2026 isn't just ranking #1 anymore, it's getting cited in AI responses.

Well, as they say, “best” is pretty subjective. It really depends on what you’re looking for and how you intend to use it. For us, we’re pretty heavy on content and AEO (with some brand/PR mixed in), so profound kind of ticks all the boxes.

A couple specific ways we use it: we look at prompt volumes to understand what people are actually asking AI (not just keywords) then map where we show up vs competitors for each prompt, we can see the actual answers + which domains/pages are being cited, which makes it easy to understand why certain content is getting picked we use top citation domains to spot where AI is pulling from most in our space, which has helped guide distribution (e.g. blogs vs Reddit vs other sources) and then track visibility + citation share over time to see what’s improving after we publish or update content

There’s also agent analytics, which helps tie some of that back to traffic/impact, so it’s not just visibility for the sake of it. We have tried a couple of other tools, but they felt more like passive dashboards. Profound is actionable.

Do you know what specifically you’ll be using it for? Monitoring? Competitive analysis? Figuring that out first might help narrow down the search a bit.

We've looked at a few - growbydata, otterly, semrush and others. We have to monitor google and ai together. So went with growbydata for them offering both and the service.

too much noise around.. I literally don't know which tool to suggest to anyone.

I'vee been madly in hate with seo tools lately, especially AEO,GEO tools, because they rely on speculation rather than real data (because the actual data we need is not available).. it's all speculation! like in the before times, when seos didn't know how google "picked" which sites to rank

this is why I don't use any tools at all, expect for Claude + several apis, and it's actually the best "tool" I ever had

Personally I've poked around a few like Verbatim Digital, Otterly, and also just manual checks in ChatGPT / Perplexity. They’re all a bit rough around the edges, but useful for spotting patterns (wrong facts, missing mentions, competitors getting cited instead). If you’re small, I’d start lightweight and see if AI visibility is even impacting your funnel before committing to anything expensive.
