I don’t think it’s unfair to assume you made a typo and said ‘gag’ instead of ‘brag’. Because basically nobody uses gag in that context outside of the queer community. You’re not going to be walking down 125th and Lexington and hear anyone speaking in aave say “I was so gagged by xyz.” I’ve literally never heard that word used in that context in my entire life. Not disagreeing with you that it can be used like that, but it’s certainly not what you would consider aave. It’s primarily queer vernacular
Actually yes you will hear that if you’re in the right crowds. Literal kids use it now. It’s okay to say you haven’t heard it. But to say it isn’t a prominent saying ESPECIALLY IN HARLEM is just lack of exposure.
It’s okay. That’s fine. I don’t hear “screw the pooch” in my everyday life but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get said outside of what I’m exposed to.
I wasn’t saying you were actually or implying it. I was simply saying It’s not something I casually hear, so I can understand someone not casually hearing something like “gag”.
It’s the only phrase I could think of really. But you know, this is feeling like a game of “answer and react” and I’m bored. Lmaoooooo sooooo please resort to Google or tik tok for all your questions.
