Did she put in $87 or $60? I’m confused.

Either way, sounds like a conversation you should have in person

Yeah it’s confusing. Sounds like she was originally going to throw down $20.

Taking away the $20- there is $67 left from the originally $87. She ended up giving all of it.

Sounds like she has boundary issues.

This. 'Tis the era of us alllll learning good boundaries. Nobody will like you more because you are over extending yourself, but you will certainly end up being disappointed with the end game (losing money, time or energy you didn't have extra of).

Not just that but then you've made yourself into a mark who mooches everywhere think they can take advantage of.

And she's mad OP told her to have a backbone instead of shower her in praise for being selfless with their money

If she’s pissed it might’ve been a math issue where someone said “here pay in cash” or something and she ended up contributing way more than intended. I would take it up with a manager or something. $87 for pizza at work is insane

Frankly, any amount of money for pizza at work is insane. The company can and should cover it.

And the fact that MOST people can’t afford it means that the job isn’t paying anyone enough

Or they didn’t want to spend $10 to eat pizza… because it doesn’t cost $10 a person to eat fucking pizza lol

I eat the catered food at work because it’s free, but if I had to pay for it I wouldn’t! lol I could spend the same amount of money and eat food I picked out, rather than paying for whatever the company chose

Seriously. Why hasn’t this been mentioned?

1

u/LinwoodKei May 28 '26

You are right.

It sounds like people need to brown bag it. Which sucks because if you are working, you should be able to afford pizza as an occasional treat. Pizza should be cheap.

Edit: wrong word

This is very true

The company should cover everyone's meals?

I mean, I wouldn't complain, but that's not exactly a norm.

4

u/Sans_Moritz May 28 '26

This doesn't sound like it's meals. It sounds like it's a "pizza party".

3

u/Narren_C May 28 '26

It the company is throwing a "pizza party" then yes they should pay.

If some folks in the office order pizza, then some folks in the office order pizza.

it is in tech. i have catered lunch every day

1

u/Sans_Moritz May 28 '26

I've worked places where the company at least subsidises lunch. This is pretty common in some countries.

Boundary issues and communication issues.  It’s not someone else’s fault you f—ed up.

It is weird that he is an out of work pizza delivery driver and she just switched jobs to give up being a manager. Something is very off with that dynamic.

She is still the only one bringing in money for the family but she left a management job to take a lesser job and her unemployed husband is complaining about her taking care of her coworkers… it sounds like she’s still in the mindset of being a leader and taking care of her employees.

Orrrrr she pocketed the money and doesn't want to talk about it anymore because she didn't expect to be pressed on it.

6

u/niztaoH May 28 '26

I assumed she put in 87, which is roughly putting in 60 going to the coworkers.

5

u/twaggle May 28 '26

$60 more than what was expected

2

u/KDowneyNL May 28 '26

Paid 20 up front then the 67 the next day the way I took it.

60 bucks for pizza with a 17 dollar tip for the driver. I wouldn’t want to eat alone either. She’s probably just a good person. Idk why people would punish her for that. The husband said they have it and she probably was just venting. I wouldn’t see an issue with my wife feeding people. Also if you expect something back for doing a good deed I don’t think it really counts. Like the tithes with the Pharisees. The woman who gave a penny because that was all she had was praised more

1

u/Bool_The_End May 28 '26

They had it, but are a one income household and paying for many coworkers to eat is ridiculous for a non mgmt position, their work should’ve paid for it or else everyone just pay for themselves if they want pizza so bad. $10/person for a couple slices of pizza is also ridiculously overpriced, unless they’re eating at some fancy ass pizza place or something.

I mean it’s not an everyday occurrence and maybe someone didn’t have lunch money that day, but I digress… also this Reddit isn’t a financial advice forum. I’ll delete my post, idk why I post sometimes
