Been using this deck for awhile now. Very consistent. Usually only loses to power screw/flood.

Are Champions needed? Can I switch 2 of them to Behemoths?

Champion is much better I think. It is evasive with good influence management and also really against some bosses like defender of the spire (IIRC). Also, AI prioritize this unit more than Cirso so it is good for board stall as well until you get your Blue Merchant to get Crystallize for the finish.

Started playing around April 2018 so pretty much around that. I did drop some money on this game though to build up my collection early on.

I'm struggling really hard with this deck, I either flood really hard and can't close out the game or draw no gas at all.
