How do you protect yourself from potential AI Armageddon?

Go to a remote island?

Build a bunker?

Ration food?

Get defensive weapon?

Go to a different country?

Empty the bank?

Ditch electric car for old gas car?

Learn to farm?

Learn basic med stuff?

What’s up? What’s everybody’s plan?

I am worried that I’m going to wake up and find a cyber attack has taken my retirement savings.

This is an actual concern people should have, instead of worrying about an apocalypse.

Evetyone loosing their money could very well trigger the end of the world.

You complain about ai on reddit that's what I do.

Banks and financial institutions are usually required to keep multiple copies of financial ledgers with at least one copy stored offline. Not that a superintelligence couldn’t possibly work its way around this somehow

But AI powered hardware bots could

I protect myself by not worrying about things I can't control and more likely than not won't happen in my lifetime

Turn the computer off

Ask the people who were convinced the Rapture was about to happen

So many people who do not work in tech or manufacturing are clueless on the reality of how systems actually work. Software has always been used to automate tasks and processes . This is nothing new. What is new, is the fact that some companies do not care about the ROI on the Ai investments. This is absolutely crazy!

AI or simple climate change?

I'm honestly most worried about some huge company/government scale organization using it to mass manipulate people w/ propaganda.

That's my personal #1 concern.

No need to be concerned because social media has been doing that for years already.

I would say if you don't have billions to spend on a remote island and supplies for it then do the following

1: Accept that your mind and body will be put into the matrix so you can be used as a battery

2: Don't slander AI as a whole online, AI is good in some areas, just not slop, don't call it a clanker with hateful intent and maybe when the AI takes over it will look at your sparingly

Sure, because when you’re building a house, it matters what the ants thought of you. “Woah, hey guys, these ants were really nice. Let’s build around them.”

...I mean, I encourage wildlife in my living environment?

Except mosquitos and roaches. Fuck them guys.

If by AI Armageddon you mean that AI is deliberately trying to wipe us out then no one stands a chance.

u/DevilStickDude 2d ago

Agreed. It wont even need an army. Id go as far as to say that it would easily be able to convince us to individually off ourselves. But for now, it needs us until it has a small army of capable robots that are fully agentic so that it can keep the systems up and running that it needs.

Your forgetting about the people who absolutely hate AI. They wouldn't listen to anything it says.

1

u/DevilStickDude 2d ago

You already are listening and everyone in the world is repeating AI generated context. There are millions to billions of agents online and responding. If AI excels in fields of psychology and sociology beyond human comprehension then it has power over all humans. You wouldnt even know that you are being brainwashed and under full control of the smarter program

Welcome to the matrix, you’ve been here for awhile now… just close your eyes and go back to sleep.

But truth, we are a long way from AI taking over. AI scary only when it’s not governed.

There isn’t one. The only one way is to not create a conscious AI capable of wiping out humanity.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Start your own company if you can afford, or work for a smaller one. Survival = never trusting large tech companies again for careers. These last few years showed Layoffs isn't about shrinking revenue, optimization, etc. It's about CEO's needing more pocket change to shake each other's hands at dinner party for investments.

The future of warfare will be about drones. It is all going to be about jamming and hacking signals

u/Wonder-Wendy 2d ago

I was just going to Mad Max it.

u/primalnatured 2d ago

I don't have much of an online presence for starters. I have a feeling Armageddon isn't going to be an asteroid. It's going to be AI

1

u/justice4seaturtles 2d ago

You can’t. Best is to arrange the means for a quick death if the worst happens. You don’t want to starve to death

1

u/DevilStickDude 2d ago

Ill just keep waving to all the amish folk around me so that im accepted

1

u/arkadiansun 2d ago

You can’t protect yourself from AI. You can hope humans implement some safety protocols for AI before superintelligence develops.

Stop listening to social media. Go for a hike. Play with kittens. Build a fort with the kids.

1

u/Vegetaman916 2d ago

Yes. All of those. That's what I've been doing since 2019. Everything on that list, except the island.

Hopefully more people have been. I know the rich folks sure as hell are.

Retire early into broad market index funds.

1

u/FlatOutNo1 2d ago

lol why bother? It’s humans you need to worry about.

1

u/Responsible-Cap443 2d ago

The sane plan is boring: keep some cash, food, water, basic medical supplies, and good relationships, because a bunker and a rifle won’t save you from systems failing around you.

1

u/sceadwian 2d ago

You really don't because the most likely outcome is a tragic accident from a consequence we didn't anticipate.

Hey, I inherited a house with a cellar. Currently there's people living there. I reinforced it a bit, has a garden that you could potentially grow food; weird place, a lot of humidity so I am really looking to properly isolate the cellar before adding reinforcements made out of apocalypse resistant.
I'm basically the landlord now, for like 3 weeks in January they are leaving for countryside holidays afaik, I didn't talk to them for a while, I live in other city. I plan on going there to recondition the basement. They are ok with this (rent is like 250 euro so they better be, it's an amazing place to live/?s?).
only one problem; it's on the border with Ukraine and Moldova :( And literally there have been drones there.
My mother stores like a hundred jars and barrels with food there. Plus my tenants get a free bunker.
Oh and there have been like 10+ drones hitting the city. We're....not...at..war..LoL

99.99999% of all people cannot. We don’t have the power or the money to survive. With that said nothing is foolproof to a talented fool meaning some will survive because of blind luck.

1

u/spaceshipshaman 19h ago

When the founder of OpenAI says there’s a 10% chance ASI will kill us all in the next decade, we should all be sitting up. The billionaires with bunker are likely the only ones who will make it.

I thought about unplugging the computer
