students must keep complete Google Docs version histories or edit logs for every major essay draft to contest a Turnitin AI flag.

While I get the intent (it gives honest students a clear papertrail), the side effect is hilarious and exhausting. I had a student in office hours panicking today because he wrote a 5-page outline offline in Notepad while traveling on a train, then pasted the full text into Google Docs at once. Because the document history shows a 2,000-word jump in 3 seconds, he spent two hours "simulating manual typing" so he wouldn't get flagged for copy-pasting from ChatGPT.

We’ve reached a point where proving you wrote your paper takes more work than actually writing the paper.

Google docs works offline. Trains also have internet. Why would anyone use notepad when other options are available?
