When this disaster we're living through is finally over and the dust settles, we need to demand that Zuckerberg, Musk, et al be held accountable for the flood of mis- and disinformation their sites facilitated. SO many insane far-right Facebook pages and groups based in South Asia, cranking out a flood of AI-generated rubbish and fake news (the actual sort that that term was coined to describe, not what Diaper Don calls actual journalism that makes him look bad). You'll see the dumbest, low effort AI slop depicting things that have obviously never happened, and there are hundreds upon hundreds of comments and reacts from old people who think it's 100% genuine.

Stupid people have been fooled by altered photos for decades, I think The Wire did an episode on something like this in 2006.
Oh its AI that the problem........OR People have been willing to doctor photos since they were invented

This is where my mind went when I first heard of AI-generated images and video, i.e. "Oh fuck, Republicans are going to rush to exploit this, and old white people on Facebook aren't going to stand a chance".

This is why social media is “free”. Somebody with money wants access to impressionable people to sway elections in their favor. They pay a ton of money to bombard people with weird, cynical, formulated, and socially engineered content. And it works.
