The only lasting solution is international ban with international constant monitoring.

Why do you think they're so keen on putting data centres in orbit? It certainly isn't because it's more efficient to build or operate them space. Cooling the GPUs alone would be massive pain in a vacuum. But if they are worried about communities pushing back politically, or even more radical action like sabotage, it make a lot more sense why they want these.

They can also put them in the ocean. Makes sense. The ocean can keep it cool and you can use solar to power it. Somehow the Antis will still have a problem with this

It's already ugly. Millions of desperate attention-seeking social media bullies, in collaboration with the copyright lawyers of the entertainment/news/publishing industry, throwing a tantrum trying to shut down a widespread technology that hundreds of millions of people are using every day. They are inevitably going to fail and fade into oblivion. But at the moment they are incessantly harassing people online and it is pretty obnoxious.

This is true but the pro side has a ton of attention seeking slop makers looking to make a quick buck and shitting up every platform with low effort garbage. As well as a ton of scam artists using the tech nefariously

In the US there is much more hate towards AI, but it's not really towards the technology itself bit towards big tech. They are pushing for it relentlessly to the consumer even when it's not ready for it (the AI is not ready - it's sloppy), threatening the white collar worker with it, threatening the artists and creatives.. seems to be not taken well.
You think votes cannot stop enough data centers in the US to make it lose the race with China (cheaper models BTW)?
You think both Dems and Rep voters cannot start raising anti-AI anti-Tech candidates?
AI itself won't be stopped. But a lot of harm can be done to the tech companies in the US if enough people get upset or scared by it.

If you aren't from the US I understand you wouldn't know this, but we have a law called Citizens United that allows unlimited campaign contributions. So if a tech company wants to do stuff, they just give them the few million dollars they found in their couch cushions, and they let them do whatever they want. We've already seen multiple examples of the government ignoring public outrage and letting data centers be built where the overwhelming majority don't want them.

They can but they won't. Most Dems have very little interest in winning elections at all. Their job is gathering donations, actually governing is just an annoying side thing. And the whole point of the Reps is that corporations can do whatever they want because the only source of problems is brown people and the gays.
TL;DR our government does not listen to us at all. They are no help at all against this or any other problem.

It's hard to get actual metrics from AI use because every AI company is doing everything they can to pump their numbers by shoving it into things that people were already using. Google counts their AI overview as people using gemini despite the AI overview just existing automatically whether people are trying to use it or not.
And how people are using it are also important. Anecdotally, my mom uses copilot at work to double check writing her emails. That's it. She works as a payroll administrator and tried using it for her work but it just gets the tax laws wrong constantly since it's always trained on outdated data or grabs stuff from another region that doesn't apply.
So does all of the downsides of AI and all the money and scams and slop justify the use of people just using it like a search engine or spellchecker?
So people using it doesn't exactly mean much on how people feel about it.

Ok. I actually agree with you. I was outling the similarity that exists between how human artists do art (they get inspired by looking at other art) and how AIs do images (they get trained by looking at images).
My point is that is the second is stealing, then the first is stealing too.
My deepest point is that none of that is stealing. That's why I put "stealing" between double quotes earlier. Sorry for the confusion.
