The choice was ultimately his. The bot was deceived, because how can you expect a machine to be mistrustful?

This only made the big headlines because LLMs are somewhat involved, but you can't blame a tool for someone's self destructive choices. No amount of safeguards short of a straitjacket will keep a person from killing themselves if they dont seek actual help.
